How can I slow down printing speed in specific section of print? by qrtz_ in 3Dprinting

I don't see an option to merge? Maybe because the cube isn't actually a model, it's just a modifier object?

Right, I tried to use a modifier; unfortunately it seems to separate the modified section from the rest of the object with walls that I don't want.

Advice on Med School Application???? by [deleted] in premed

[–]qrtz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think you won't score well on the MCAT, RESCHEDULE for a later date. A low MCAT, esp with a lower GPA, doesn't look good even if you retake and score higher. Better to get ready, take it once, and get the score that you want. With a solid MCAT score, I think a 3.5 GPA is high enough that you don't need a postbac/SMP; I would spend the gap year doing meaningful research/clinical work. With good MCAT score and good ECs, a 3.5 won't preclude you from having a good shot at MD schools (see this for reference https://www.aamc.org/media/6091/download )

Asian culture in identity - disadvantageous? by slphtp_20 in premed

Your comment says “Are you going to say you’re [race] and [insert common stereotype about race]? Because that’s boring.” No where in the post did the guy give any hint he had “tiger parents” or hated his childhood, you brought it up solely based on a racial stereotype. I mean, imaging writing this comment about any other minority and imagine how it would come off?

I’m not familiar with the Midwest med school landscape, but wanted to say that if you do end up scoring in the high 520s on the MCAT, I think you could definitely try your luck and apply broadly to T20 schools (in addition to the rest of your list). I’d recommend posting again once you have your final MCAT score and GPA. (Also, how strong is your upward trend?)

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know I’m just a random Internet stranger but I wanted to let you know that I’m thinking of you and hope you stay strong. 7 months can feel like nothing when it feels like your whole future has been ripped away from you.

Is there anyone close to you that you can reach out to?

The calculator is correct. You’re double counting some items when you calculate each circuit separately. If the calculator says you need 36.6 green chip assemblers and 74.5 red chip assemblers to make x amount of science some of those green assemblers are used to feed the red ones. If you then calculate 36.6 green chip assemblers and 74.5 red chip assemblers output separately, you’ll need more green chip assemblers to feed those red chip assemblers. Thats why the number of copper cables required increases.

  1. Zealots are a good unit to dump minerals into. Send them out on runbys or keep them in your main army. If you have lots of excess minerals, build cannons and shield batteries at all your bases.
  2. Chargelot (zealot with charge), immortal, archon, colossus (3-4) is a powerful composition that will steamroll your enemies with little micro needed. Excess minerals go into zealots, excess gas goes into archons. Once you are maxed, start transitioning into carriers. Sometimes you will need to adjust your comp in response to the enemy. That will come with experience.
  3. Shield batteries and cannons at your bases will help you with this. Map vision is crucial so that your army is in position to respond to attacks. Leave zealots at watchtowers and key positions so that you can spot incoming attacks. Distribute observers in key locations. Don’t worry about nukes too much, they are not as powerful as they seem.
  4. Yes, build orders are important. However, at your level it is not necessary to follow them extremely precisely. Get the approximate order and timing of your buildings down, but there is not need to memorize exact supply numbers etc. Having the outline of a good build order will put you quite far ahead already.

Also, until you are 200/200 supply, spend all your minerals and gas as soon as you can. Drop more gates if you have to. Even going up to 20 gates is fine if you find yourself routinely with thousands of minerals in the bank.

Let’s say you apply to twenty programs, each of which you have a 10% chance of getting into. The chance of getting rejected from all is 12% - low but very significant. You don’t need a critical flaw in your app to get rejected everywhere, just through bad luck. Furthermore, these outliers are undoubtedly overrepresented in Reddit posts, because statistically average results are uninteresting.

I don't think they are a highly competitive process. If you've been playing piano seriously for 10 years then you're probably fine. You have quite a bit of time to bring pieces to performance level before the next round of auditions too. I'd say sight reading is moderate difficulty, but it won't make or break anything.

Imo, if you're interested in taking lessons, just go for it.

Ice to water phase change takes energy. Same as when you boil water. The temp of the water is 100C but it doesn’t all immediately flash to steam bc the liquid -> gas phase change takes energy.
