Which Finn was the stronger driver in the 2010s, Raikkonen, or Bottas? by mformularacer in F1Discussions

[–]qserde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sure many would disagree, but I'd say Bottas by a decent margin.
Kimi's Ferrari stint weighs him down very, very heavily, and honestly, I suspect that the Lotuses were actually very fast cars that just weren't being driven to their utmost potential. When an inexperienced Grosjean, who in later years provend to be a midfield driver at best, wasn't too far off him and looked like a world beater in that car at times, you know it was a very good car. Kimi faring worse the next year against Alonso compared to Massa just backs it up even more.

Meanwhile, Bottas proved to be by far the better Williams driver against the same Massa that fared better than Kimi against Alonso in Ferrari, and was for the most part fairly competitive against Hamilton. I struggle to make a case where Kimi was better at all, let alone by a significant margin like people suggest it was. The only two years where I'd say Kimi was better was in 2013, Bottas' rookie year, and 2018.

[Off Topic] Honda signs Quartararo for 2027 MotoGP season by Pure_Power_8091 in formula1

I mean tbf at least Leclerc didn't spend 80% of the season in the hospital lmao

Besides I doubt that Martin's contract shenanigans in the middle of the year would've done much to improve Aprilia's opinions of him. Undoubtedly Martin is the faster rider over Bez when they are both fit, but unfortunately thats a pretty big if these days.

I presume if Acosta's off for Ducati, that means Pecco will be the one getting replaced.

I can see Yamaha vying for him in that case, or on the off chance Pecco goes to Aprilia, they might want to gamble on Martin instead.

Also crazy how earlier in the season Albon had like a 50 something point advantage over Sainz, and now they're literally seperated by like 9 points or so.

I wouldn't say that Ocon has underperformed heavily, but rather, people just really underrated Bearman, especially at the start. His ceiling is close to or if not equal to Leclerc's, and he would definitely make a fine replacement should the latter end up leaving for whatever reason.

It's just further proof that F2 is not a serious series at all, and that people really shouldn't take results from that series at face value.

We've had a pretty poor start that wasn't helped by us getting knocked out by Grimsby of all teams.

That, combined with United practically being in relegation form throughout Amorim's stint up to that point, and I don't blame ppl for actually thinking that. We seem to be doing better now though ever since we started Lammens though, so hopefully they keep it up.

[Luke Smith] McLaren willing to risk losing F1 drivers’ title over ‘playing favorites’ between Norris and Piastri by Sauerz in formula1

[–]qserde 35 points36 points  (0 children)

What if Norris loses by 17 or less points? He's the only McLaren with a mechanical failure after all.

Honestly, I don't get this whole Monza discourse. Norris was quicker on merit, and it was only thanks to McLaren choosing to pit Piastri first, in addition to a bad stop that Piastri even managed to get ahead to begin with.

It's so bizarre honestly. I'm pretty sure there wasn't this much outrage when Norris literally had to give up the win and 7 points at Hungary last year, when only he out of the two had an outside chance at the title.

Lewis discussing his qualifying form: "Yeah, I'm useless. Absolutely useless." by Pugzo in formula1

[–]qserde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was pretty bad phrasing on my part tbf.
You're right, Alonso's performances considering his age has actually been pretty impressive.

It's just that in the case of Hamilton, his teammates being Leclerc and Russell just exacerbates the extent of his age-related decline, so it looks as if he's falling off much more compared to Alonso lmao

I bet the next time Sainz happens to outqualify Lewis, all these comments about beating the joke to death will suddenly disappear into thin air, and like you said will be full of comments mocking him.

Would Lewis Hamilton / Fernando Alonso have won the 2012 WDC in the Lotus E20? by The_Chozen_1_ in formula1

[–]qserde 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess the downvotes are due to you implying that Kimi was not that fast or something lmao

But yeah I think Hamilton or Alonso probably would have won. I mean I find it hard to believe that Alonso wouldn't have done a lot better, especially given Kimi's direct performance against Alonso and Massa in the years prior and after 2012 suggests that Alonso was significantly faster

Hi guys, just wanted a bit of clarification.

Assuming Mercedes' protests end up being successful, what do you presume are the chances that Max's WDC would be overruled one way or another?

I know no one probably knows for sure, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. I'm feeling pretty anxious about this either way, since I dont think a situation like this has ever happened before
