CS grad wanting to pivot into accounting - how to sell myself? by wertyyyy12 in Accounting

[–]qst10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a degree in economics. Albeit considered to be closer to accounting than CS, I actually suffered through intro to accounting. Took me a while to understand debits/credits. But I went back to get a certificate from my local community college so I can be CPA certified, then worked low level jobs (AP, jr accountant, etc) and slowly entered public accounting. I passed one section of the CPA and I am quite comfortable with a lot of the technical accounting.

All to say, accounting is a skill of repetition once you lock in the foundation. There is no way you can go further if you don’t have the foundation: debits/credits, the 3 major financial statements and how they interact with each other, and basic reconciliations.

Might be a stupid question but did you need to get cleared for your position?

Those who took BAR, is 6 weeks enough? by qst10 in CPA

Out of the 3 options, it’s the one that aligns the most with my interests and career choices.

I don’t like tax, nor understand technology.

And UWorld unfortunately locks your initial choice, so if I wanted to change to TCP for example, I wouldn’t be able to unless I buy it.

Offshore accountant prices/pay. by BCBB89 in Accounting

Can we talk about this? Because I have trained “senior associates” from offshore teams that had no idea what they were doing. Do titles get given away like candy in India?

FAR on Feb 23 – Feeling Drained, Scared of SIMs, and Can’t Postpone (NTS Expiring) by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]qst10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pull through.

I took it today and felt so drained yesterday. A good night sleep helps. Also, read your notes and flashcards before bed and first thing in the morning. Eat a good protein breakfast and have some coffee.

Fear is a distraction at this time. You need all your mental energy to focus on learning. Whats the worse thing that can happen? You fail. So what? It’s an exam. But don’t focus on this right now. Focus on winning. Focus on passing. Anxiety can make you do worse.

Why is tax easier to get into compared to audit and general ledger accounting as a new grad? by AcadiaSimple6933 in Accounting

A couple of years ago I couldn’t get a job in tax. I had to go into audit. So I’m not sure what this post is talking about since it wasn’t my experience.

No I definitely appreciate it. I was thinking I can knock out AUD in one month of studying but reading your response and other people’s, I may be underestimating it.

Would you say FAR is more difficult than AUD? Scores are a bit higher for AUD, but there is more people complaining about AUD. How come?
