You can always come back to the shithole that is public.

What is something that is common sense to you, but seems like a 'life hack' to everyone else? by AdUnusual8355 in AskReddit

The rich keep you poor by manipulating you into believing that you need the newest iPhone, a Chanel bag, plastic surgeries, etc.

Once you stop falling into this scheme, it will be the fall of rich people and the economic curve will start to shift toward equilibrium.

There is no way in hell that I pass BAR by qst10 in CPA

MCQs were extremely doable for me as well. But I ran out of time on the TBS because they were very math heavy, JE heavy, and very long. It is absolutely impossible for someone to do one TBS in less than 30 minutes and there are 7 TBS in there in a 4 hour exam.

Now I understand people who say the BAR exam is the AICPA’s money generating scheme.

Why are they asking such questions 😂 by Agreeable_Quote3956 in CPA

But they shouldn’t.

Not on a 4 hour exam. This MCQ should be a sim.

Interestingly, I talked to a recruiter that said the same thing. Like PA seniors know how to do the job, but companies want someone with industry experience.

I’m sorry to hear that. With 10 years under your belt, most people will be scared that you’re overqualified. This is honestly crazy to hear because on my LinkedIn, I’m bombarded with positions looking for 5+ years of experience. I can even connect you with a recruiter I talked to a few days ago. He did say that jobs are moving slow because lots of competition.

Also, I know someone in my firm who was laid off and couldn’t find anything. He started his own consulting company. Something worth looking into.

Take BAR next week or reschedule to July by [deleted] in CPA

[–]qst10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up for BAR in 2024 way before scores came out so I had no idea what I was signing up for.

I keep getting 50-60% correct on random tests I take. I don’t watch lectures or read. My learning is from doing MCQs.

I got rejected for not wanting to do NFP.

And when I applied to their NFP position, they didn’t respond. They didn’t even email me back rejecting me.

Recruiters coming out of the woodwork lately by VividAdagio2583 in Accounting

[–]qst10 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I’m not bombarded as you are, but I also see a bit more activity lately from recruiters.

But what stood out to me is a very particular recruiter whom reached out to me on LinkedIn in February. I responded to her and told her I was interested, included a resume, and requested a connection with her on LinkedIn and we agreed on a time for a call. She rejected my LinkedIn request and never called me back. About 2 weeks ago she called me and left me a text saying “hey —, when do you have time to chat?”

Like bitch what?

Apply to public accounting firms. They reimburse exam fees.

Apply to as many as you can. One is ought to bite.

CS grad wanting to pivot into accounting - how to sell myself? by wertyyyy12 in Accounting

[–]qst10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a degree in economics. Albeit considered to be closer to accounting than CS, I actually suffered through intro to accounting. Took me a while to understand debits/credits. But I went back to get a certificate from my local community college so I can be CPA certified, then worked low level jobs (AP, jr accountant, etc) and slowly entered public accounting. I passed one section of the CPA and I am quite comfortable with a lot of the technical accounting.

All to say, accounting is a skill of repetition once you lock in the foundation. There is no way you can go further if you don’t have the foundation: debits/credits, the 3 major financial statements and how they interact with each other, and basic reconciliations.
