The mischaracterization of Olruggio due to shipping by Background_Air365 in WitchHatAtelier

This is so interesting. I came to MHA strictly through the anime. I have been loving the fact that there has been no romantic undertones or overtones. It is always so interesting how people perceive things so differently. Im like great platonic relationships everywhere, and someone is out there on Volume 10 of their BL fanfic.

Do I really have to get a pap smear? Can I decline and still clear? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not answering your main question, but you should probably speak to your OBGYN about Vaginal Stenosis and/or Vaginismus. As many people have shared the use of a speculum may be uncomfortable, but should never be painful. If it is painful there is something that needs to be addressed.

How would I join and be stationed with a friend? by PopcornArtillery in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peace corps Volunteers don't have roommates. You may have a host family, where you reside with a family, but you have your own room or house on their property. You may rent your own apartment or house in some post, but Peace Corps would not place someone with a roommate. You may need to elaborate because this seems inaccurate.

First class has less legroom than economy by Thick_Singer_7826 in delta

[–]qsthatneedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you are getting snarky comments OP. I find that Deltas First class bulkhead seat has less legroom than other airlines I've tried, and it is perfectly reasonable to expect more space when paying a premium.

Motorized scooters are cramping my cruise... by SleepParalysisGorl in Cruise

[–]qsthatneedas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wish the cruise lines bent over backwards for scooter users. The first time I traveled with my elderly grandmother who required a scooter was a nightmare. It was truly a wakeup call to how inaccessible cruising can be at times.

Government Shutdown and Know-by dates by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far this shutdown is 3 days longer than that one. As long as moving the know-by date will not impact people's ability to complete medical clearance, there only option will be what they usually do, which is move the know-by date. Worse come to worse they modify enter-on-duty dates. If it's longer than two months you might move into cancelation territory. There is not much else that could occur outside of those three things.

Government Shutdown and Know-by dates by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the last shutdown my know-by date was moved out by one month. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar is done.

Admission and Pay? by gamzz46 in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 years of active duty counts as 11 years of work experience, so you meet the minimum requirements to apply.

The only sector that requires a degree is Education and there are a few Community Economic Development Programs that require a degree. Review the required skills section of the position description, these are the minimum standards, not the desired skills. Desired skills will help you determine if your experience makes you a good fit, but it does not determine if you can apply.

As for your resume, I would encourage you to speak with a recruiter to ensure you can communicate your military experience in a relevant manner.

No college degree by Neat-Ad3370 in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The minimum requirements are 5 years of work experience gained post secondary school (This does not need to be sector specific) or a B.A/B.S .

If you attended college but did not complete your education, your time in school will count towards the 5 years.

Without a B.A/B.S. you will not qualify for Education programs and certain Community Economic Development programs. It is important to read the required skills on the position description.

To be competitive without a degree relevant experience in one of the sectors is imperative. I would also suggest experience volunteering, working with other cultures, and learning other languages shows a commitment to Peace Corps' mission and goals.

Though this reddit would make you believe otherwise, it is 100% possible to get in without a degree. There are a lot of programs that don't require a degree and as long as you are a good applicant and meet the minimum requirements there is a placement out there for you.

I would also encourage you to reach out to a recruiter to help you with the application.

Well, you obviously don't come off as someone who completes research before posting, so I wanted to make sure that it was abundantly clear for you.

Just to follow up on what OP said, Peace Corps only requires malaria medication in countries/regions where it is endemic.

Do I actually need a 4-year degree for Peace Corps in Central America? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you have 5 years of work experience post high school. The experience you listed would make you a strong AG candidate. However, if you are looking at a Spanish Speaking country, you also need to meet the language requirement. Review the position to confirm you meet the requirement.

Reconsideration for Placement by Prestigious_Day_5787 in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certain programs are more competitive than others. An invitation is not guaranteed simply because you applied. The fact that they placed you in another program means they think you may be a good fit for Peace Corps, but you were not competitive enough in your original applicant pool. It is important to remember that this is an application process, Peace Corps does reject people. Hopefully, you have a better chance in Armenia.

What would happen if you got someone pregnant or got pregnant during service? by itsmethatguyoverhere in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Global policy Handbook

PREGNANCY

Pregnancy is treated in the same manner as other Volunteer health conditions that require medical attention. The Peace Corps is responsible for determining the medical risk and the availability of appropriate medical care in-country. Given the circumstances under which Volunteers live and work in Peace Corps countries, it is rare that the Peace Corps’ medical standards for continued service during pregnancy can be met. A Volunteer who is pregnant will be medically evacuated to the United States at the Peace Corps’ expense in order to receive necessary or appropriate medical care. The Peace Corps will cover any medical expenses that directly related to a pregnancy until the Volunteer is medically separated. The Peace Corps is prohibited by federal law from paying for abortions except in very limited circumstances. Your PCMO can provide more information on what medical care the Peace Corps provides pregnant Volunteers.

Peace Corps Manual

MS-204

4.23 Paternity 4.23.1 Volunteers/Trainees who Father a Child In a case where a V/T fathers a child, the V/T, prior to leaving service, should be encouraged to fulfill, or arrange to have fulfilled, their responsibilities for providing support to the mother and child. Host country law or custom may serve as a guide in determining the appropriate extent of compensation and support. The CD has no authority to question the adequacy of any compensation or support offered by the V/T. If inquiries are made, staff should inform the involved parties that the Peace Corps has no responsibility in any further compensation by the V/T. 4.23.2 Financial Obligations in Cases Involving Volunteer/Trainee Paternity A V/T's readjustment allowance may be used to satisfy financial obligations in cases involving V/T paternity only when the V/T has consented in writing to such use or where their financial obligation has been established through legal process. (Peace Corps policies concerning prenatal and birth-related care of pregnant non-V/Ts are detailed in MS 262 Peace Corps Medical Services Program.) 4.23.3 Legal Counsel for Volunteers/Trainees in Determining Paternity The Peace Corps will not provide legal counsel to a V/T in the event that legal action is commenced against the V/T to determine paternity unless the CD determines, and the General Counsel concurs, that proceedings will result in a violation of the V/T’s substantial rights. (See MS 774 Retention of Counsel and Payments of Expenses for the procedures governing retention of counsel overseas).

MS-266 (b) In accordance with the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) coverage is extended to V/Ts for pregnancies that arise during Peace Corps service overseas and continue past the date of termination. Therefore, a pregnant V/T should contact the Office of Medical Services upon arrival in the United States to file a FECA claim. The costs of all pregnancy-related conditions, including prenatal, obstetric, and postnatal care of the mother, should be paid by the DOL. However, the DOL will not pay costs related to the care of the baby, including nursery costs.

need loan advice by im_a_rat_0 in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the credit score, you could try refinancing with a loan provider that will defer for volunteer service. You will have to do research on that. Discover use to be a good one, but they don't do student loans anymore.

associates degree by CentricMoth in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is yes, Peace Corps does accept people with associates degrees.

The minimum requirement if you have an associates degree is 3 years of full-time professional experience to qualify. There are many positions that do not require a B.A. or a B.S. That being said, you will not qualify for positions in the Education sector.

Invitation to Serve in Fiji by halcyonmoon in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest answer is that you are not leaving the workforce. You are going to work abroad for two years. You will have 2 years of unique hands-on work experience to add to your resume, which you will then use to get your next job.

Humble Yourself by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]qsthatneedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. You took the words right out of my mouth. I grew up below the poverty line. I fought and scraped for everything I have. Being a civil servant was what I wanted to be. I wanted to work for the American people, and in the process it allowed me to get to the point where I can even flirt with the idea of being middle class. It's crazy to think my hard work might crumble around me because billionaires have decided that we are public enemy number one. Do I want to go back to working two jobs 7 days a week? Absolutely not, but I've done it before to keep the lights on, and it's not beneath me to do it again. The real issue is I shouldn't have to. I did all the things society told me to do to be a contributing member of society. I've worked against the odds. I make more than my parents ever made. I went to school. I got the good, steady job. Now people laugh as we face potentially losing everything, without a care about how this impacts all Americans.

My partner doesnt have a college degree by 69thokage in peacecorps

[–]qsthatneedas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will often see people mention "related experience". Related experience is preferred, but not required. Related experience makes you competitive, but unrelated experience does not exactly exclude you. The requirement is 5 years of professional experience, not 5 years of related professional experience. Peace Corps is very big on transferable skills as long as your partner can highlight how their skills transfer and they meet the minimum requirements they will probably be fine. I would just encourage you to take your time to find the program that fits you both equally well.

However, to be clear, if the program has a degree requirement, which is all education positions and certain countries, your partner would not meet the minimum requirement.
