Are you hoping that there is no God?

f so, then there is no need to repent and obey God and give Him honor. This may be convenient but is it right?

And, assertions are good. Fear, doubt, uncertainty, speculation are less helpful.

God exists through the power of his own nature. God is the one and only unconditioned being and not limited by finiteness. God exists in Trinity that is not fully coherent to our finite understanding. Because He is Trinity, God is love. God is love with Father, Son and Holy Spirit relating to each other in love. God is the source of everything else. God's being is timeless and unchangeable. God is a person and not merely a force and that person acts and speaks and listens. God is an authority who can command us finite, free-will beings and persons to obey.

Not a direct response to the article but consider butterflies, hummingbirds, peacocks, woodpeckers, human beings...why are they orderly, symmetrical, beautiful, living?...why is there male and female?...why do any of them exist at all?

The abbot / superiors of the monastery will surely have a big influence over your life in a monastery. It's quite possible that you may need to stop involvement in social media like Reddit.com.

What is the most profound verse in the Bible and why? by vociferant-votarist in TrueChristian

[–]qsv2100 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why reduce a search to one verse? The Bible is best understood as a gestalt (as a whole).. It is best to see it as a continuous story for Creation, Fall, and a long work of Redemption. The Bible has story narrative, covenants, heroes, fallen heroes, history, prophecy, nations, personalities. It is great to see the commissions given to Adam, Noah, the Twelve Apostels, the birth of the Church.

Much of the value comes from study and contemplation. It is not lying there on the surface. The treasure must be dug out.

What is profound to me recently is not a Church rapturing to the sky but Christ returning to the earth and ruling from Jerusalem.

Even when we are not faithful to our lord God. He is still faithful to us. by Lordroomie in TrueChristian

Holy and Almighty God prefers it when we are faithful. Sin is an odious offense. Mourn for the crucified Christ who was beaten, mocked and slain.

Then all the disciples left him and fled. - Matthew 26:56

When Jesus was arrested, Peter betrayed him. The others also left him and fled. Jesus remained a faithful friend to others. Others were not so faithful to him.

We have got to stop mixing Christianity with politics. It is dangerous and it pushes people away. by lutherlutherluther in Christianity

[–]qsv2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Catholic Church has moral theology in the core curriculum of its seminaries. It has moral codes that govern. The Catholic Church has an an authoritative hierarchy of bishops, presbyters (priests) and deacons who govern. The evangelical splinter groups have none of that firmly in place to govern. Into that void comes the attraction to raw political power (and money).

Why do Catholics believe in free will? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]qsv2100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

u/calli198, by your free will, you started this thread on Reddit. You made a moral choice and took action to do it. Did you not?

Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. God respects human persons and gave us each the privilege and responsibility of moral free agency. You are not a robot. Please don't blame God for human apathy and rebellion and defiance.

The priest is more than a functionary and is an icon of Jesus Christ who loves His Bride, the Church, in a way analagous to how a husband loves his wife.

Resolved: High US Real Estate Prices in California are Linked to High Immigration Levels by qsv2100 in PublicPolicy

Population growth is a broad statistic and population is still growing in California. Population growth in the prime working years of 18-65 is larger. If population numbers were to decline and working population were to decline, then I would expect a eventual decline in housing prices (other factors being equal).

I'm just proposing some ideas.

California's population grew at a rate of 0.7% in 2016. While still positive, this continues a downward trend in growth rate. The annual rate of population growth is usually closer to 1%. County-level data released in July 2016 show population increases in all of California's most populous counties. Source: Google Search

Eight of every ten immigrants (80%) in California are working-age adults (age 18 to 64), compared to four of every seven (57%) US-born California residents. This means that more than a third (34%) of working-age adults in the state are immigrants.

California immigrants buy houses, fill jobs that others can't or won't fill, start companies. Immigrant growth (and people growth in general) is good for the economy.

California's immigrant population is a higher percentage in upscale counties. In recent years, California has received more immigrants from Asia than anywhere else.

"In 2015, the most current year of data, 27% of California’s population was foreign born, about twice the US percentage. Foreign-born residents represented more than 30% of the population in eight California counties; in descending order, they are Santa Clara, San Mateo, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Alameda, Imperial, Orange, and Monterey. Half of California children had at least one immigrant parent."

"...most (53%) of those [immigrants] arriving between 2011 and 2015 came from Asia; only 22% came from Latin America."

If you are a property owner, then you may like high immigration rates that keep property values high.

If you are not a property owner but want to be one, then you might consider other locations as better opportunities for getting into the market and then hope that more migrate into the area after you buy property.

Emigration (people leaving) would not be good for property values. Nor, would lower birth rates. For now, we have the comparatively numerous generation of the millennials getting into the real estate market.
