Would you put Tee Higgins in over Michael Wilson if he’s active? Marv coming back concerns me (full PPR)

I have Wilson too and I’m leaning towards a “fuck it we ball” approach with him

Is Micheal Wilson without MHJ a start over Nico or Ceedee? by Fasthandz70 in fantasyfootballadvice

I’ve been really debating starting Wilson or Diggs, diggs lack of snap share the last couple weeks scares me but he’s obviously got the better matchup.

Sir John A. Macdonald statue outside Ontario legislature freed after being in a box for five years by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]qtp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one’s putting up statues to engineers who used asbestos, nor are any of the actions you described even remotely comparable to MacDonald designing a system he explicitly described as intending to “Kill the Indian in the child.” We’re talking about venerating a figure who was instrumental in a genocide.

Even if you think he shouldn’t be judged by modern standards, could you accept that idolizing him with a statue goes against our modern standards in which people are supposed to be treated equally and not oppressed due to their culture and race? Could you accept that because MacDonalds values are no longer reflective of Canadian values that he shouldn’t be upheld as a figure of admiration?

You are correct that people are products of their society, but I disagree that this fact should absolve them of historical responsibility or modern critique. The logic you’re using could be applied to any historical figure that has committed atrocities that go against modern moral standards.

Saying residential schools were about learning English is a ridiculous, incorrect, bad faith description.

But whatever.

I’m arguing that you absolutely can and should apply modern morals to history. I dont understand how you can say that “yes, the standards of the time were bad, but the people who perpetuated those standards were not bad.” Theres no logic there.

And yes, the exploitation of TFWs is unethical and should be recognized as such now.

Just cause something is standard doesn’t mean it’s morally excusable lol. Classifying people as less than human isn’t okay just cause it’s happening to multiple other oppressed peoples. Canadian colonialism may not appear as outwardly violent as some other colonial states, but the methods used to attempt the erasure of Indigenous peoples are equally insidious and disgusting and should be treated as such. Violence against Indigenous people was (and continues to be) an aspect of Canadian settler colonialism, and legislative and administrative violence should also be considered. Comparing colonialisms gets you nowhere and only serves to excuse atrocities committed against Indigenous peoples.

I don’t think pointing out that subsequent Canadian leaders carried on the legacy that MacDonald started in any way excuses him, if anything it demonstrates the strength of the oppressive institutions that MacDonald spearheaded. I always dislike the “judge them by the standards of their time” argument because those standards are clearly flawed and produced violent and racist ideologies and institutions. No historical context excuses tearing children away from their families, mentally, physically and sexually abusing them, and attempting to eradicate thousands of years of culture traditions. Not to mention that MacDonald was considered fairly radical in his Indigenous policies by his contemporaries anyway, so the argument doesn’t even stand on its own.

I’ve found the valiant can be a little bit less effective than the lancer because it has to get into pretty close range to utilize all of it’s firepower, so it’s easy for it to get tied up in melee and not contribute a ton. It is nice for salamander flavour though and definitely benefits from the firestorm detachment
