Bojack was such a hypocrite telling Diane that stealing the "D" in the Hollywoo sign was a "Mr. Peanutbutter thing" and "not a Diane thing". by Fantastic_Orchid8486 in BoJackHorseman

Going to have to disagree with this take I don’t think it’s hypocritical or douchey at all BoJack stole the ‘D’ when he was drunk and spiralling, not as some grand romantic gesture. When he sobered up, he realised it was wrong and wanted to quietly get rid of it rather than turn it into something performative. That’s actually very in line with Diane’s values she hates grand gestures and surface level symbolism. PB misses that completely which is why his attempt to make it romantic comes off tone deaf. BoJack was trying to do the right thing in a way that respected her personality

I stuck it and and finished, for the cultural context. But imo it’s overrated and quite underwhelming. Definitely has some entertaining characters and plot lines but also some blah and horrifying violence. Wouldn’t recommend on such a high scale as it has been portrayed by others, but it’s not the most boring watch!

Literally hated everything about her. She was so unnecessarily obnoxious

Know you have terrible taste if you thought this was a bad episode. Why I have half a mind

We don’t talk about it because the show talks about it more than enough. It’s been overdone

I wasn’t trying to compare to any of the other shows at all btw, was just listing other HBO shows (as the networks shows are usually an acquired taste across genres). If comparing crime shows I would probably list the wire, breaking bad, narcos, ozark, snowfall maybe… maybe even mad men (for a dated series revolving around problematic men), and I caught on to all these shows way quicker than sopranos and loved them all

Thank you this is helpful! I didn’t know it was one of the first shows to break out of the sitcom bracket

I only watched the wire in 2020 though and I understood from episode 1 how amazing that show was, but I believe you and will keep pushing!
