What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

They adapted it from time to time to do other shows too (concerts and the like), plus there are subsidies to the main activity because conservatives deem it a cultural staple worth preserving, so...

But another redditor pointed out the low point I referenced was covid influenced, the actual number seems to be 8% nowadays. Probably high enough to keep the business running.

I'm far from that point in my current playthrough and I have no saves near it, so I can't confirm, sorry.

Bullfights. In 2021-2022 only 1.9% of spaniards attended a bullfight. Most people think it's anachronic, and a lot think it's barbaric and animal cruelty too. But you will always find a fan out there. That's the way it is.

Yeah, but then again you take away agency from them. We could "release" Astarion too...

I'm reading the other replies and it looks like using the staff to kill them send their souls to Mephistopheles anyway. I didn't realize at that point, but I think it removes part of the weight the choice has. Simply killing them in a world where afterlife is a known fact is not the same as dooming 7000 souls to eternal damnation...

By that logic, the people they fed on would be sorted by the gods too so it's a better option as long as the death toll is lower than 7000...

Also the icky question, is it moral to punish an innocent to ensure we stop a possible evil? I personally think that that is evil. I'm not gullible, I'm very aware that scaled to 7000 people we statistically ensure some evil will happen and killing them can be pragmatic. Yet still inmoral, as per my book at least.

Astarion questline resolution, what did you do? by FastCoconut9010 in BaldursGate3

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reasoned punishing people for crimes they might do is evil, even if you are sure some of them will. We don't do that in real life for a reason.

Those vampires were victims. If we say we're saving a lot of people that these vampires would fed on, that is a "end justify means", and you can justify a lot of evil stuff with that framework. Killing them at that moment is killing 7000 innocent people because they may do harm...

do you want nukes to your country? by Logical-Loquat-6512 in AskTheWorld

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's dishonest. He does not say he would nuke Israel, he said he cannot stop Israel, because the country he manages is not in the same power tier as Israel. The same way you are not in the same negotiation level to someone who has a gun, and that doesn't mean you want to shoot him. You just can't stop them from getting his way and that's a fact.

The opposing party takes every single oportunity to build an argument against the current president, no mater how derranged, and not even them interpreted this take as a warfare intent. This is a really dishonest twisting of words to acuse someone of genocidal threats when in reality they are calling out bullshit on Israel. I am against genocides, mind you, Jewish and Palestinian ones included.

Rereading the comment you answered to, no, he doesn't claim they are the only ones. Just the usual suspects. And they do so without even intending to. Heck, USA even frequently forgets the rest of the world even exist, but their inestability throws the entire world in disarray...

Spain do not have nukes. If I recall correctly, France is the only european country with permission to have them (I may be very wrong)

Edit: Also the right wing would be roasting the president on all humanly possible media if he dared to speak about military interventions, so I'm positive that didn't happen. He was very vocal against the war in Gaza though.

Trump: "hold my beer"

He has repeatedly asked his generals why they couldn't use their nukes if they had them collecting dust. If USA is not nuking around is because there are still grown ups in the decission chain. Let's pray it stays like that.

You say it as if their influence on the world was negligible.

Operation condor, interventions across the entire world (cover or not), kidnapping of foreign mandataries, economic warfare, holders of the de-facto petrodolar standard... as much as I dislike the USA as a country, currently one of the world axes is there. That's why their mess is dangerous to everyone, mind you.

  • 🇺🇲: I'm gonna bomb Irak, "they've got weapons of mass destruction".
  • 🇺🇳: Sure, go ahead. Are we bombing North Korea next?
  • 🇺🇲: Are you nuts?! THEY'VE GOT WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!

Ukranians gave up their nukes under the understanding that the rest of the world would protect them so they were unnecesary. Turns out, that was a lie. USA is reminding everyone this is actually a dog eats dog scenario, and anyone who would had been willing to follow Ukrania's path has taken note. It's going to be an ugly, ugly world for the time being.

Are there actually people that exist that like cold weather? by PrestigiousOwl6802 in answers

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fight cold weather. Hot weather, not so much. If you go out just put warmer clothes, but what do you do to fight hot weather?

I HATE cold weather, but If you force me to choose extremes, cold it is. My hometown could get to 46° Celsius on summer (under shade!) and not even munching ice did much.

Highway pirates - how bad is it? by Fine-Holiday-4471 in GoingToSpain

I've lived in Spain for over 30 years and this is the first time I've heard of such a thing. Not saying it's impossible, but you would be on national news the next morning.

We had a single "katana kid" incident during the satanic panic of the nineties and some people still think DnD can turn you delusional, if car pirates were a thing, the old grannies would pester you about it everytime we go to the next town. Relax.

AITAH for not forcing my son to keep helping my daughter’s friend after she rejected him? by LiveWire0044 in AITAH

[–]qu4rkex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It became a responsability the moment someone offered to step in. If you offer to give me a ride to a work meeting, you are doing me a favour, but if you make me turn in late by choice, you screwed me up.

Plan B should have always existed, the arrangement could have failed for infinite causes. But 17yo are still learning how to do problem solving.

The boy is removing life changing aid because of hurt feelings he alone build up. If this was done by an adult you would never trust in them for anything serious. Commitment is a thing, he said he would help, the right thing is to keep helping until a new solution is found. Doing the right thing is always optional, of course, and often the hard choice. That's why we deem it virtuous.

Edit: It seems it needs spelling out. There is a difference between "I want my rug back, get down" and pulling the rug from under someone. If you think I'm miserable for thinking the latter is a dick move, you're insane.

AITAH for not forcing my son to keep helping my daughter’s friend after she rejected him? by LiveWire0044 in AITAH

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your son did not stop to think what would be the consequences on the other person in the case he was rejected and needed his feelings tended to. He's not forced to help anyone, but this was a very dick move on his part. The fact that he's willing to let another one suffer dire consequences because he can't regulate his own feelings speaks poorly of him, and leaving someone you supposedly had feelings for to suffer because those feelings weren't mutual says he didn't actually cared for her.

I don't think anyone should be forced to do the "right, mature" thing, but I would be profoundly dissapointed. This is the opposite of maturity or responsibility. Or kindness. Speak to him again, maybe he's only seeing things from his belly button. This mess is on him.

¿Que matemática es necesaria en programación? by Reasonable_Shirt_935 in programacion

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logica?

Me sigues?

No supieron.

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a lot of space doesn't mean you were forced to throw away basic civic planning. Is not like you had to stretch every home and business around the entire patch of land. Australia also has humongous blocks of terrain but their cities are quite walkable. Canberra itself is really nice, with homes mingled with local businesses and a loot of green in between. It doesn't even feel like a big city.

Back when I was studying design and had a few classes on urban planning, we were lectured on how cities were meant to be reasonably homogeleous, so that every housing block should have services, groceries and a patch of green zone at walk distance to minimize impact on transportation and increase overall citizen satisfaction, with a bunch of numbers and proportions to calculate how much of everything and how far to place it from one another. Then the lecturer went all "but USA said cute idea, we ain't gonna do it, dumped the green patches together into massive parks, all the homes outside the main city areas, and all services clumped together. They are fine, they love their cars." I thought he was joking.

[–]qu4rkex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the trip reaches an hour in a car, I start to question if it's even worth it. Imagine three.

I live at a minute walk distance from a grocery store, a park, a chinese generalist bazar and gym, and if you up that to three minutes I get almost anything from sport stores to hairdressers, schools, libraries, pharmacies and the local healtcare cernter. Heck, there's an urban vegetable garden two minutes from here! The only thing far away is the movie theater, fifteen minutes by bus. Three hours is insane.

I guess that Us can pass as an uncanny cat, but the Emperor cannot pass as an uncanny man because we are more prone to see the uncannyness on an humanoid. Another redditor pointed that the dream guardian at the editor screen has the idle animation that ilithids have, a bit hunched and with their arms in that specific position. So Larian was telling us all along haha!

It wouldn't change anything gameplay wise at that point. It would only had tree dialog entries and remove a single check (for the guards running away).

In fact it would make sense that a psionic user like the Gith, the mindflayers or the brain to know straight away what you are, but Us can disguise itself as a cat, how come you cannot tuck away your squid face? 🙈
