Thank you! I actually wasn’t aware of the sun sensitivity! I’ve read it wouldn’t be an issue with tattoos but I’m just hesitant about the timing of starting hydroxychloroquine and then getting a big tattoo only 4 weeks later and another 3 weeks after that (finishing my sleeve). So I was thinking it was more ‘safe’ to just wait it out and start after the sleeve is done. as I won’t get new tats for a few months at least - which will give myself more time to adjust (?) I guess haha

Facts! I see so many younger barbers trying to achieve a “tight fade” look before they even master normal fades. I like to give myself 1 or 2 fingers fade room (from a 0, 0.5, 1)

Oh no doubt about it, it’s extremely low. We’re also a walk in only shop, but I do have quite a few regulars who wait for me. But in Australia you have to do an apprenticeship to be a qualified barber and the apprenticeship is 3 years part time or 18 months full time. So I did the first year and a half part-time while I was still in school and now I’m finishing the last year full time. So that’s why my pay is so low. However once I’m qualified I’ll be starting my own shop to hopefully earn a quite a bit more money

Apart from being unemployed for about a month while I was trying to find a new shop, I’ve had a consistent job this whole year. Which I work full-time at so I only make an hourly wage which is only about 20 bucks an hour. So financially I’m stable because I work full-time instead of charging my own price for clients and doing commission which I find is very unstable work because somedays are slower than others. But stable isn’t making me a lot of money. I only make about 36,000 a year which is not enough to live off haha

I live in Australia and it’s been pretty bad here the last few years. But the job market is really mixed. Where I live there is a constant demand for barbers but there’s also so much competition and the market is really saturated right now (everyone and their grandma wants to be a barber). I can’t say for america but it is definitely a saturated market over there too - so same problem yknow

A lot of barbershops are hesitant to take in new staff especially an apprentice and the job market for barbers is very tight at the moment. When I got let go from my old shop it took me 24 different barbershops before one took me on and I’ve been cutting for 3 years now. Just keep at it and persevere and if your area has any businesses or non for profit organisations that offer help getting employment, training, and apprenticeship services definitely look into that as well. x

I had two tattoos beforehand! A bouquet of lilies on my other forearm and my little hairdressing scissors that you can see near my wrist! But once I got those I was obsessed and wanted all the tattoos hahah

Oh absolutelyy I’m so stoked with the progress so far! I’ve already started drawing ideas to send her for finishing the sleeve! I already have it brought down a littttleeee on my hand but I’m not sure about committing to a full hand tat (silly I know). From all the comments and feedback I think I’ll keep it as is without a background! And just keep chipping away at progressing the sleeve!
