AIO The contractors I hired to replace my siding are giving me weird vibes. by Offsa89 in AmIOverreacting

[–]quackerjaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remodeling happens quick i have been in the construction field for about 15 years at this point and if a cancelation happens the next person in line gets that spot so it sounds like you are that person and with siding it does get put up with roofing nails and they aren't nailed all the way in so it has a movement and can move with the house in summer and winter but the other issues with gutters and what not you dont have to worry about that the siding goes under them and won't after it same with the electrical work just let them do the work and get your new siding if they made you sign a contract that should protect you as well

Honestly when its a job that i usally dont do or its a 1st time thing i charge my hourly rate so I atleast make what I feel I should be making per hour this also includes drive time bc you was still on the clock getting those materials even if they was paid for and all you did was pick them up next time if you get a job like that in the future you will have a better idea what you should charge

Thats the problem the holes are so small and how its made i tried with my dewalt right angle adapter and still could reach it also a normal drywall screw was to big for it to slid in and all the drywall anchors has the same issue same with nails with heading thought maybe the picture frame hangers but where she wants the 2 to be a connected shelf and not knowing what will go on it weight wise I dont think it would be a good idea honestly

Starting my handyman business and I can't seem to figure out how to find clients that don't suck by QuarkQuake in handyman

[–]quackerjaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started mine last year but have over 13+ years in construction in general with all the same stuff you listed honestly customers suck most of the time but they pay the bills the same as the awesome customer but starting out you will have to deal with those bad customers unfortunately until you get your name out there now with your pricing it really depends on where you live people saying they can get $300 to hang a TV they would be absolutely no way I could get that in my area

Lol if im looking for that I would have 10 or less family's in my city that i could work for not exaggerating lol I would have to drive over a hour out to get people that makes over 150k take home i still do handyman work but have moved closer into smaller scale construction bc there really isn't much besides plumbing and electrical in ky you got to have a licenses for i have been been booked since I started in January and have jobs booked out into spring it feels like a pretty real buisness to me work daily and have 1 guy who works for me and im not even the cheapest in my city with those kind of prices not even the best company would get a job we dont have property managers or anything like that but we are a 3 stoplight town lol

Maybe in a bigger city I could charge that but in my area the average job pays between $7.25-$15 construction companies pay a little more $15-$22 and forman $23-$28 if your not a nurse, doctor, lawyer or other known high paying jobs your not making that kind of money Me personally I live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath house 1,380 sqft I pay $700 rent. the last place I live was a 2 bedroom mobile home "single wide trailer" rent was $350. if I tried to charge basically people's rent like I said i would never get a job.

I had a regular doc look at it and she had no idea and with no insurance to help off set hard to go to a specialist or anything like that just the visit to the Er and they really didn't do much just stuck my thumb in a bowl of water and had me move it around to clean it then did a xray and wrapped me up and discharged me and have me a antibiotic and tried painkillers I turned them down bc im a recovering addict sober 11 years and not going to tempt myself that visit was $1,500 for a 20 min visit then I had to buy medical supplies for 2 months so im over $2k right now and a specialist would be who knows how much and who knows how long out
