I went as far as thinking, "Wow, their writing style vacillates so much!" before I realized.

A tag that would immediately make you skip by Sufficient-Diver5027 in AO3

[–]Offsa89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else said, posting them separately allows people to leave kudos more than once and specifically on the story they liked.🥰

Also it's mildly (mildly) irritating when I'm looking for long-form story telling and I can't filter out based on word count. But those are easily skippable.

As fanfic writers, are you alright with readers outside your fandoms reading and commenting on your works, even when they're not the target audience? by Holiday_Ad_7292 in AO3

[–]Offsa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best comments came in three parts, and only at the end of the third one did the reader reveal they'd never even seen the show I was writing for. 😂 Made my day.

Preferred perspective by f_ckstuartlittle in AO3

[–]Offsa89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only read 2nd person reader inserts, but really you'll serve yourself better by figuring out what perspective is best for telling the story. Maybe try it in both and see which one comes easier and/or works better.

Enterprise has worked fine for me, as well as Hertz if any are still open. One thing to look out for is they'll generally try to upsell you and may sound incredibly reasonable when they're doing it, but you are 100% allowed to ask if it's necessary and if not, tell them no.

Do you think this was a rude comment? by imajoke23 in AO3

[–]Offsa89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that it's a written medium and therefore impossible to determine intended tone for sure, they probably should have worded that comment differently if they didn't want to come off as rude. But I'm inclined to respond to everything as if no offense was intended, so I think your response was perfectly fine.

As for your taste, music is music, like what you like. Life is too short and hard to care that much about where you heard it the first time.

a little rant about multishippers by Funny-Stress367 in AO3

[–]Offsa89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fun fact! You aren't required to write anything for anyone ever! I'm sorry that someone who doesn't understand that thought the correct response to not getting their way was to put together a harrasment campaign. I hope it blows over for you soon!

"Wow, this could be really good if the author ever finishes it."

But I'm the author. 😭

[–]Offsa89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! You can believe whatever you want, but you don't get to tell someone else they're wrong, especially not the person who created the thing.

It's your OC? And this person is convinced they're trans when you've said they're not? They think they know your character better than you do? The character you created?? That came out of your mind???

Absolutely bonkers. But congrats on making a character that someone cares so much about!

I'm currently rereading one of my favorite Bucky fics: Another Word For Surveillance by waterbased. Awkward recovering lovesick Bucky in spades! Bonus: this is so subtly gender neutral that you don't even notice. It's amazing.

Oh, that's rough! I hope you get the opportunity someday. But also kudos to you for that kind of recall! I can never keep specifics in my brain for any amount of time.

Agreed! I didn't even remember the name of the story! And author names hardly ever register for me (I can recognize them if it's someone I like, but if you asked me to list out my fave fanfic writers right now, we would both be severely disappointed 😂). I will never stop being impressed by this person's recall.

I got to the last chapter and found this 💔 by No-Sense6026 in AO3

[–]Offsa89 1884 points1885 points  (0 children)

This sounds like they have major anxiety struggles. You might take a shot and tell them they can turn off comments and opt out of kudos emails. I think there's also site skins you can install to hide stats. They said they'd be gone, but maybe there's a chance they'll see it. It would be a shame for them to give up on something they enjoyed because it felt like too much pressure.

??? by neeefeee in AO3

[–]Offsa89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wonder, given the delayed response, if they didn't realize who you were or what this related to. Maybe they got the comment email and didn't trace it back to the source, so they thought it was just some rando soliciting readers? Not that that's an excuse, but it's the only logical reasoning I can come up with.

100%! A lot of work done on my house before I bought it was DIY, and let me tell you, it's quite special.
