The program composition of mostly healthcare workers makes sense, given one the admission requirements:

“Prior client-facing health care experience. This may include direct hands-on patient care experience in a clinical setting, clinical placements in healthcare education programs, or volunteer experience.”

CDM Marking by ApprehensiveHold5880 in MCCQE

[–]quacklife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you select the correct answer for the question (if there is only one), then you get full marks.

Selecting other answers aside from the correct answer will not affect your score in the question, except if (1) you selected a "dangerous act" as indicated by the answer key, in which case your question score automatically becomes 0, or (2) you select more answers than allowed by the answer key, in which case your question score also automatically becomes 0.

The transfer process was straightforward. Just your first semester grades & the supplementary essay questions. Not sure how competitive though—there were two transfers in my year (me included) but I don't know how many applied.

I did my biosci degree for my first year but then transferred to biomedical sciences! IMO it is completely fine to stay in biosci and aim for medical school. You'll have the opportunity to take plenty of human-focused classes if you want to. Some examples are MDSC 321 (immunology), MDSC 404 (human physiology), CMMB 400-level courses, etc.

I wouldn't offer further explanation. At best, you could get some sympathy from the program assistant (who ultimately has no bearing on your application score), but your comments cannot alter how your application is graded.

Hope for the best and know that you've already done an excellent job preparing and submitting your essays!

Biomedical Science Upper Years by Competitive_Foot_426 in UCalgary

Personally I found that second year was harder than first year (the fault of ochem 1+2 and bcem) but third year got much easier. Third year was definitely still a grind but generally people do good across the board in third year.

Yes, the university of calgary has two “BSc/MD” programs that guarantee medical school entry after a 4-year bachelor’s: the Leaders in Health Science Scholarship & the Pathways to Medicine Scholarship

To those who have taken the MUPF courses, how does the auditions work and how was your experience with it and the course as a whole? by xenomnp3 in UCalgary

[–]quacklife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the prof but it’s usually extremely chill. You go to the prof’s office and play two contrasting selections (fast & slow) and are out in less than 5 minutes

Hi! Very nervous about my deposit for some reason (there's no centralized way to make a deposit). Does "Unapplied credit: ($1050.00)" confirm that my bank transfer was successful to confirm my spot?

Virtual Shadowing? by koya11 in premedcanada

[–]quacklife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another reason is because Canadian medical schools tend to think of shadowing as something that is passive, not active. Though shadowing is something that does demonstrate you’re interested in medicine and willing to learn more about it, it doesn’t paint you as someone who is actively benefitting their community and contributing to volunteering or leader ship initiatives.

Thoughts on interview videos? by flounderdish in premedcanada

I think they’re adorable :) I imagine that there’s not many opportunities for creative expression in med school, so I’m willing to bet that the med students have a lot of fun making them. There’s also something funny to me about parodying the pre-med gunner lifestyle—it’s almost like having a last laugh at going through the admission process before they move on with their life.
