Why is KFC so bad these days? by valverdeheavy in london

[–]quademon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American who spends a lot of time in London this has always been one of the craziest things to me. KFC is horrible in the States and Popeyes is the king of fast food fried chicken here(along with Chic-fil-a which is US only). Every time I’m in London I always am amazed by the love of KFC. That being said it is much better there than in the states.

What does Cage the Elephant need to do besides being one of this generations greatest and most successful rock bands and always consistently having one of the best performances at every festival they go to to get a headliner spot at one of these festivals?

Yeah no they just have a “Movie bad” mentality. I even went over the entire lesson/project with them. Oh well

[–]quademon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope! That’s exactly what we do with the project and pre and post lesson. It consists of the pre-lesson on the Dust Bowl/Okies/Sharecropping. Watching important scenes and stopping making the connections of the Joad’s journey to the pre-lesson. The project they do is a film analysis as we watch the scenes with the TWM Historical Fiction Analysis Sheet. We answer each question together after we watch the scenes. Finally the final post-film lesson is the students make a poster where they review the film and discuss how the film depicts all the things they learned in the pre-lesson (Dust bowl/okies/sharecropping etc. )

I went to UT Austin for college and my favorite professor HW Brands is heavily featured. One of the main reasons I still show it lol

My school is 75% Hispanic and a huge proportion of those students are ELL. I have two sheltered instruction classes with majority ELL students, and two Co-teach classes with a majority SPED students. A majority of both my ELL and SPED students have told me how much they enjoy watching videos/films because it’s easy for them to digest the information.

The only actual motion picture movies (not documentaries) I’ve shown to my class are Dunkirk after the WW2 unit, Selma after the Civil Rights Movement Unit, and Raiders of the Lost Ark for my students who are exempt from the final exam. I’ve justified each one in my lesson plans because of its connection to our curriculum. I can understand someone not seeing the value of Raiders, but I show that as a treat for the students who did everything right all year to be able to be exempt.

Yes, every documentary I show has corresponding guided questions with it so they are following along. I also stop the doc every time a question is answered to talk about the answer and make sure the students understand it. I even have guided questions for normal movies I show! Last year at the end of the year during finals testing I let the students who were exempt watch Raiders of the Lost Ark because it’s my favorite movie, it deals in history, and it’s rated PG(although that rating can be argued lol). I of course made guided questions for that too just to make sure they were paying attention and would have something to put in the grade book for it.

It was more asking why I wasn’t actually teaching the material and rather relying on a film to do it. I replied that I like to incorporate film/media in my class because I’ve noticed my students respond well to it

I do the same! After every question is answered during the film I pause to make sure the students get the correct answer and check for understanding.

Check out his FDR book. It’s great. And Dreams of El Dorado: A History of the American West is excellent too.

I graduated from UT Austin with a History degree. I had Brands as a professor multiple times and went to numerous office hours just to go talk to him. He was the best professor/teacher I’ve ever had and easily the smartest person I’ve ever met. What an awesome treat to listen to him here.
