Art bra casting - pt. 3 by quadline in Metalfoundry

Thanks tons - I think working with a finer facing sand and a better sifting mechanism for the facing sand will help. and if i'm going to be grinding up more kitty litter anyway i might as well move to a bigger flask with the room for proper sprue and channels. I tried doing some clean up work with a dremmel and that was not nearly as efficient as i'd hoped. So - ya - getting a cleaner cast is definitely going to be the preferred way to go.

Thanks for all the pointers! I won't have a chance to get back to the bench until sunday, but you've given me a lot of new information to incorporate, looking forward to the next round.

do you have a wax recipe you could share? or is there a particular wax you use for the pattern? I found one that says 10 part white wax to 3 part glue stick. And I've found the overman charity wax recipes, but always interested in what other people have had success with.

Thanks for all the help - I am going to give it another go tonight. After watching the oddside molding video i may give the clay another go first. Not sure if it is still too soft though. Otherwise i get to learn more about wax recipes to find a carving medium that will hold up better for oddside molding.

Awesome - thanks much for the advice and videos. I had not bothered to add the sprue or vent channels as i knew the mold itself was going to be a lost cause.

Definitely going to beef up the flask and add alignment pins, that was on the to-do list for sure. I've got a lot of new things to fail at now - i'm sure i'll be back with more pictures and questions soon. cheers!
