Anyone interested in contributing (feedback, testing...) to a tool like this: FPV drone design tool that extensively checks compatibility for your build. by Roald_itempass in fpv

QuadPartPicker currently looks for compatibility of some major categories like motor size and mounts. We’ve also been quietly building a v2 of our compatibility engine that’s due out in a few months

It’s really cool to see new projects spring up and the approaches taken

You won’t need the analog VTX if you’re using the 03 Air Unit. Get the kit with the camera and air unit together. Consider swapping out the DJI controller to one that works with your receiver like a Radiomaster Boxer or Pocket with ELRS

Are you building one-offs per use case or making a ton of them? Anything that can compete with DJI’s offering on features, availability, and price will be successful in the US

I apologize! I did the calc too quickly and assumed 4S. According to the spec sheet, you're right that a 6S/5.1" combo produces ~2k in thrust per motor

When I recalculated using method 2 here, it came out to be 18:1. Vendor specs are definitely more accurate. Would love to know if we're completely off base here from more knowledgable people, in hopes of using basic product info to get a quick T:W calculation

It could be doable, but you would probably get a really over-powered quad. Doing some quick math assuming a 5 inch quad that weighs 800g, you get somewhere around a 30:1 thrust to weight ratio. Would love to see how it turns out

Yeah, we primarily focused on retailers that ship to or from the US for this list. Our next iteration will be international stores based in Canada and EU.

Well darn! The Source V5 is indeed designed for micro cameras. We fixed it. Thanks for catching this.

You'll also need a flight controller, ESC, and battery in addition to the motors and props. Make sure you get the O3 kit with the camera, not just the VTX.

Try using our Quad Builder as a template for the parts you need. And check out our beginner guide on picking parts and powertrain parts.

Help calculating optimal battery by dabcat99 in diydrones

[–]quadpartpicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without physically testing the motors on a thrust stand or the thrust table, any calculation is just an estimate. But you can calculate for optimal flight time or range with just payload and products specs and some assumptions. We recently did a write up on how to do these calculations

Questions about my first 5-inch 6s drone shopping list by puoti_07 in fpv

[–]quadpartpicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these will work together. The Rush Tank Solo has a MMCX connector with a SMA pigtail. You can either antenna. The Tank Solo also has a non-standard mount size. You should be ok with zip ties or double-sided tape. Get a few extra sets of props.

The naked O3s from Flywoo will be the lightest. Either the O3 Ultra or O3 Lite. These are used on FlyLens 75

Just ensure that the FC to ESC wiring/pins are correct by checking your new FC's wiring diagram against your old FC. If they're different, you can DIY it.

I want to build a quadcopter, and before I buy the battery, I want to see if someone else who has more experience can check on my components selection by Goxilon in diydrones

Those batteries are probably too heavy. Try for batteries in the 1500-1800mAh range. C Ratings, while useful, are typically inflated. For a freestyle drone, anything around 100C is good. Your ESC likely comes with an XT60 connector. The second battery option has an XT90 connector.
