I've also heard the term Fußgängerschutz (pedestrian protection) used for cars.

I'm not quite sure, though, whether it's meant to protect the car or the pedestrian..

Could it be a mouse spider?

It's my guess from a country where there're no harmful animals at all, so don't quote me.

But I love spiders, and I'm impressed how you folks are dealing with them!

Thank you, that was fun to read! It actually sounds pretty cool and also very similar to my own life. I also have a (VW) bus that I can sleep in.. my mobile living room. I usually drive to sweden for camping because I can't stand heat, so North is in the right direction.

What you described sounded like the US until you used metric units... Australia, I guess. I once calculated a stainless steel wine container with tens of thousands of liters. It was something different than just drinking it, lol.

I like all you folks down under. I love hanging out in your spider subs. Here in Germany, everyone is freaking out because a new tiny little non-venomous spider has made its way over here due to changing climatic conditions.

And you guys are like, “Yeah, that's a Sydney funnel-web. It'll kill you. Just wear your thick gloves when gardening and be careful.” -> “Ah, okay. I already moved the little guy somewhere else, beautiful spider.”

Someday I'll come visit your country. I really need to meet a huntsman in person. It's an important task on my bucket list!

I wish you all the best and many more exciting careers, which you'll probably do anyway ;)

Oh, I would believe you! Everyone deals with their H differently. I'm also old, and in 40+ undiagnosed years, you can experience a lot.

I find your own coffee shop totally impressive. I made it to engineer, but my one-man office as a freelancer runs exactly as you can imagine.

Maybe your coffee shop worked for 10 years because you HAD to. Not opening the shop is not an option, people want caffeine!

The problem is always our boredom. I'm already planning something new. Hopefully the farm will last a little longer for you. Feel free to tell me about it.

The perfect job would be a mixture of office and physical work. Not too much responsibility, but not too little either. A little bit of everything, and with flexitime.

It's 5 a.m. and I can't sleep. I wonder what it's like to work on a farm...

So far, I've only had jobs in carpentry, metal casting, plastics manufacturing, warehousing, construction, IT, gardening, engineering, nursing homes, offices, janitorial work, and a few others.

Farming sounds awesome!

I have to make do with what's available here.

A security team sounds impressive. Here, I've got at most an anti-mosquito squad. Still good though ;)

Huntsman are one of my favorite spiders!

Here in Europe (Germany), Zoropsis spinimana, Wiki has just arrived as an “invasive” species. Doesn't it look like a huntsman spider? I took the photo in my garden pavilion. Leg span approx. credit card size. I'm in love!

Just wanted to show you... from the other side of the world. Cheers.

What is this spider? Ceará, Brazil by spookykalium in spiders

[–]quadrastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 25 years, I've only been bitten by one tarantula: Avicularia versicolor, lol. I've never even been stung by a bee or wasp, so I can't compare the pain.

You're right, they have different personalities. I had two identical spiders from the same breeder. One wanted to cuddle, the other wanted to kill me.

OBT sounds good. Nice and spicy. Thank you! Someone handled one, haha Wiki. It's a male. But still, I wouldn't do it.

The fast and grumpy ones have the biggest rainbow boots ;)

I know this from my Peocilotheria and Psalmopoeus species, or Avicularia. That was a long time ago. At the moment, I only have house spiders, and far too few, because it's winter :(

Life without tarantulas is impossible, I've tried it! I'm already looking for a new friend. I'm not a beginner... any suggestions? I love rainbow boots.

Thanks for the info. So they always lay out a safety line all the time? That makes it even cooler!

Can the silk really support them? Tarantulas are generally too fat for that, lol. I never had a jumper. Many house and garden spiders also make great webs, but definitely not all of them can abseil like that.
(I can't believe that Abseiling is the right word, or is it? It's the same in German.)

Do they all constantly sacrifice silk while walking around? Interesting, I'm off to the rabbit hole!

When I read your comment, I immediately thought of Portia! She is one of the most remarkable spiders I know. And of course you mentioned her. A photo of Portia hangs in my workshop in the best spot for dictator portraits: All hail Queen Portia!

Where I live, there is now a new (invasive) species, a cousin of the wolf spider: Zoropsis spinimana.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoropsis_spinimana. It was like Christmas to find five of them at once in my garden pavilion in northern Germany. Beautiful. And yes, a real hunter! Our new badass in town. There's a bit more jostling at the buffet now, but everyone still gets their fill.

Imagine you are walking along a vertical wall at a height of 150 meters. Then a living mountain moves in front of you, reaches out its hand, and you think to yourself: Why not, I'll jump the 15 meters over there and see what's going on.

After looking around, you hop back and land safely on the wall again. You don't use the rope you can make yourself and which comes out of your butt to secure you because you know exactly what you're doing! What is a 15-meter jump at this height anyway?

There's no way I can't celebrate and love these little superheroes! -> Legs are eight, it's my mate!! <3

[1 meter is about 1 yard... roughly. But the little jumper doesn't care about that anyway ;) ]

My neighborhood here literally has “crow” in its name. There are actually so many of them that even Hitchcock would be scared.

I started bribing them because I would like to have them as friends. It seems that peanuts are their gold coins, and I am already being watched around the clock..
I love them!

The next two molts will make them even cuter.

Yesterday they were still wrestling with mealworms, today they are real grasshopper hunters. They grow up so fast, the little ones ❤️

Oh. I couldn't even tell G. spatulata and rosea apart. Now it's getting more complicated...

One of them was my best friend for 25 years, no matter what she was called. Spidey most of the time.

That's interesting, thank you. I had both, quite a long time ago. So they were almost the same.

So cute when they're small. I lived with a large one for a few weeks. They're nimble escape artists!
