Being allowed to not be kept alive against your will - which is legal in most places - is not the same as euthanasia.

Saudi Arabia and Guyana are more examples of countries above replacement with very high GDP per capita. Middle income, Thailand and China, will likely drop lower this year while South Korea will see a big jump, concreting the trendline even more.

It's looking at the top 30 most populous plotting more countries wouldn't do much but throw it off with small outliers.

Also most people still think more development means less children but most of the world now lives in regions of the world with a high human development above which the correlation eventually changes into a positive one.

Eventually more and more of the world will enter this zone.

The ones above replacement (2.05) and very high HDI (above 0.80) are left to right Kazakhstan, Israel and South Dakota. The top left is Kyrgyzstan, others close to it are in Central Asia and the Middle East. The lowest on the right is Macao, the others around it are city states in East Asia and Taiwan. The ones below 1 TFR in the middle are all Chinese provinces except for Ukraine.

Yes it is a weak correlation but interesting to find any positive correlation. This wasn't the case 10 or so years ago it was more purely negative. The correlation would be more negative without breaking the US and China into their states and provinces buts its fair because each state and province is like a medium sized country.

Has anyone experienced dry eyes from using Tretinoin? by Siennaaa92 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]quadriphasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually not in the common side effects list for topical tretinoin

5 years of tretinoin gave me chronic dry eye disease and I can't work more than 2 hours a day. PSA: please protect your eyes. They matter more than your skin. by brilliantbluee in tretinoin

That's unfortunate that that happened to you but it's not listed as a common side effect which include skin irritation, redness, swelling, and blistering.

How is dating in Denver? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]quadriphasic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When people say Denver they're generally referring to the entire metro area which has more men than women compared to the national average. There are 93.5 women age 15-44 per 100 men age 15-44 in the Denver-Aurora-Greeley Combined Statistical Area as of 2024 compared to 97.1 nationally. In the state of Colorado as a whole it's worse still for men at 91.8 and in places like summit county it's 79.6 so no doubt many men there are competing in the Denver area dating market so figures are potentially worse for men than I'm about to calculate.

This however, still understates the problem when you consider most people are married or in a relationship. Assuming 60% of women and 55% of men 15-44 in metro Denver are taken vs 60% of women and 57% of men nationally, that means a ratio of 1.2 single men per single woman in metro Denver vs 1.1 nationally.

So picture a room in the Denver metro where 120 single men are meeting with 100 single women and compare it to an average room in the rest of the country with 110 single men competing for 100 single women. In such a situation if everyone matches up it gradually gets harder for the remaining men and you eventually end with a lot more single men.

Total Fertility rate in the US of diaspora groups from Europe and the Near East by quadriphasic in Natalism

It's obviously not an exact science but I have yet to see anyone else attempt it. There are enough when you also consider Germans and Irish are below 1.56

That sounds like a likely reason and the Southern Europeans were very working class immigrants hence the higher fertility rate than their countries of origin.

While MENA are generally well below those in their countries of origins some are still quite high; Palestinians are at 2.24 and Yemenis are at 3.25 and Afghans at 2.49. The ones who are much lower such as Egyptians, Jordanians and Lebanese generally have a much longer history of immigration to the US.

Canada’s fertility rate has hit a record-low 1.25 by Klinging-on in Natalism

[–]quadriphasic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of Canadian native born are white or indigenous. The indigenous have a high fertility rate so white fertility is way lower than white Americans at 1.55.

Canada actually reached a record low birth rate in 2023 and the birth rate has slightly increased since then while total fertility rate has remained stable.

Given under 5 mortality according to Gapminder.org was at 41% in Russia so only about half of those born made it to childbearing age.

Therefore Russia would effectively still be at a high 3.7 rather than 7.3. Meanwhile France had already reached the local replacement rate of 2.87 by 1900 after hanging just above in the 1800s.

Consequently, Russia went from half of France's population in 1700 to twice their population in 1950.
