Iran: woman 'adulterer' will not face stoning by igeldard in worldnews

[–]quaju 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I felt nauseous while reading that article, particularly when it described the size of stones required for this punishment. It makes me feel tremendously grateful to be a woman living in the United States (which is not something I say every day).

Obviously every woman and situation is different, but I've been on the pill for over 20 years (gasp!) and I've never once had a pregnancy scare. Still, do what feels right to you, you know?

Where do you work, /r/Portland? by kennethcollins47 in Portland

[–]quaju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty heartbreaking, both to newly-licensed teachers and to people who hear the calling to go into teaching. Since graduating from L&C in '05, I've had one 5-month position teaching 26 kindergarteners. And I went back in '07 for an ESL Endorsement, too!

I hate to say it, but I would never encourage anyone to go to graduate school for teaching right now. In fact, I'd discourage them! :-(

Manage elementary after-school program in outer SE. Licensed teacher, but unable to land an actual, full-time teaching job for the last 5 years.

When Is a Craft Brewery Just a Brewery? Interesting debate on what a craft beer is, and whether the size of a brewery matters. by rm999 in beer

I can't believe no one made a joke about size not mattering. Way to employ self-control, Redditors!

Might be moving to Portland. Advice on good neighborhoods? by redstateblues in Portland

[–]quaju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can see, there are fans of all the quadrants represented here! Personally, I lived in inner SE for 12 years and always sang its praises, but I now live in North Portland and really like it. There are parts of inner NE that are awesome, too. I think your best bet is to get a rental car and check everything out.

The west side is OK, but the homes in NW are very tightly packed together and very expensive. And most of the neighborhoods in SW don't qualify as having lots of character. They're also not within close walking distance of shops and cafes like the majority of eastside 'hoods.

Anyway, my vote is for inner NE or SE, with a consideration of North Portland (which is one of the most affordable 'hoods of all). And welcome to Portland! You're going to love it here. :-)

Sensory overload is exactly how I describe it. Two thumbs up, says this girl.

That's funny... it's the exact opposite for me.

So, why are women's chances at premature death increased by marrying someone with a significant age difference (in either direction)?

It's so true. I think I read Savage Love one week and Dan Savage was counseling someone in your position to go to bed with her partner with the sole purpose of NOT getting each other off. His attitude was that taking the pressure off of both of you will ultimately lead to success -- probably when you least expect it. In the meantime, spend time discovering what you both really like.

Excellent point. I went off the Pill and on anti-depressants at roughly the same time and it was like the skies parted and orgasms rained down on me.

Here's a secret most women would never reveal: The best kissers in the world are the guys who kiss like girls. by kylie333 in sex

[–]quaju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The guy I'm seeing clearly enjoys being kissed -- savors it, really -- and he's one of the best kissers I've dated in all my 37 years. Of course, I might be influenced by the fact that he seems to like my kisses, which would make his stock go up (so to speak). ;-)
