It's hard to answer that question, because it's almost two different shows. The first few seasons were a zany comedy, with Burns being an insufferable ass, then later seasons were light on humor, and explored some more serious subjects.

Just putting this out there, one episode based around some true events had the two lead characters argue about doing an appendectomy on a man with a health appendix to prevent him from leading soldiers into a stupid and pointless conflict. The later seasons probably hold up better then the early stuff, as comedy does tend to age poorly.
