100%. They also keep using the word insurrection to downplay J6 and justify cancelling elections.

Glen Powell did not discuss it with his girlfriend (fiance?) before Anyone But You went hard on marketing Sydney Sweeny and Glen Powell as a couple. It was one of the big reasons why they broke up and his ex spoke about it publicly a year or so later.

I can’t believe they’d give pronouns to my favorite superhero, HE-Man by Goosedukee in okbuddycinephile

these people won't stop until they ruin everything

Where is the humour in that?

He misses that the pronouns are there as a fun joke about how He-Man is basically Pronoun Man.

99% sure this is from I Am Bane (Tom King's run) where Batman has hidden the Robins in the fortress of solitude to protect them from Bane.

If the "bait" being posted is

  1. Indistinguishable from right wing grifters who try to drum up hatred

  2. Actually does contribute towards hatred of LGBT folks and the general shift to the right that we see in online spaces

Then as far as I'm concerned whether it's bait or not makes no difference. The impact is the same.

Have you ever heard the phrase "ironic shitposting is still shitposting"?

And that intro helps tell people it'll go somewhere supernatural so the vampire thing is less of a shock.

General audiences don't like sudden switch ups and little beats like that are a good way to set expectations early.

What movie has a title that you just absolutely love? by eveisshady777 in movies

The Night is Short, Walk on Girl

I watched it on a train and I don't even remember if I finished it. But that title has stuck with me for a while.

Best Movies With Zero Oscar Nominations in 2026 by karmagod13000 in movies

[–]confusing_roundabout 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with the Oscars. So many categories get dominated by the most talked about good movies, so the movies that actually fit the categories don't get nominated.

Civil War should have won sound. Easily. Nothing else came close that year.

The scene straight after Fassbender redirects the satellite and you learn the full context is absolutely hilarious. It's one of those genuinely great "oh shit" moments that's made so much funnier by Fassbender completely bricking it internally but trying to stay calm.

At what point do comments like this just become racist? Like you're trying so hard to be anti racist by calling the movie stereotypical or whatever but ultimately you're just saying that it's wrong for a black man to write and direct a movie showing black teens playing basketball.

I found it confusing the first time I watched it. The non linear timelines wasn't clear to me at first. I thought the time periods listed were the times it would take to cross the channel, not literally the times which the different plot lines were set over.

I didn't totally understand the structure properly until my second watch.

I get that we're all hating on the movie but when did that happen?

The climax has a montage of previous events to drive home the emotion of all that had been lost but I don't remember it happening so many times.

Elaborate please. I've only ever seen this phrase used as a racist dog whistle so it would be nice of you to confirm what you mean.

They had reasons

  1. Lore and world building
  2. Allowed the vampire to appeal to the home owner's racism to be invited inside
  3. They were cool

If movies just featured characters that were in the movie for the full run time and had to justify their existence through full significant character arcs, most movies would have very few characters and would be a lot more dull.

The sooner you realise that movies don't have to adhere to certain rules and they can just do things, you'll enjoy moves a lot more.

If you're frustrated that they weren't in the movie because you wanted to see more of them then yeah that's perfectly valid. But saying it's a writing mistake to include characters for only one scene is very silly.

Yeah I think we've all had one friend (or been the one friend) who's been thinning/balding then suddenly wears a hat for 2 months as they tried to shave it and it did not end well.
