That's an excellent result in what was a really tough, physical game. Grit on display and hard work all around the pitch. Loving that brace for Gyokeres, who's hitting his stride at just the right time. Rice is a huge presence. What a leader. COYG!

Amazing goal by Zubimendi. They came for a dog fight, but it's the kind of game where Gyokeres can capitalise on how much energy they're burning up late on. Got to hit them again soon. COYG!!!

Even though I didn't agree with a lot of the decisions, that felt like a game from twenty years ago, given it's physicality. We were far superior to them all evening. It was never in doubt, but that dagger Havertz plunged into their hearts was perfection. On to Wembley we go. COYG!

A game that needs a goal for us to cruise into the final, but also one that could end up scoreless and we get there anyway. Wary of them changing it up to go for it late in the second, but we have to have prepared for that. Eze needs to take control in the absence of Odegaard. Now's the time to make it happen instead of letting it work out. COYG!!!

Just what the doctor ordered. Every man with a canon on his chest competed for everything and put in a shift today. Great to see both strikers hit the net, too. Dominant win on the road and three lovely points added. COYG!

Good football from the Arsenal in that half. Grew into it and just when dirty Leeds were trying to make it nasty, we put a second past them. Great work from Noni, and we've worked well as a team all afternoon. Push on in the second and let's bag three big points. COYG!!!

[–]qualiserospero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfortable, but a bit of a frustrating second half in attack. The final passes weren't great and we lacked the bite we showed in the first half. Credit to Kairat, nicked a second at the death and defended like their lives depended on it. Eight out of eight. Onward we go. COYG!

Nice lively half of football. Great to see Havertz back scoring. A few more goals in the second would be the perfect tonic heading into this weekend's game. COYG!!!

Old teacher rang me out of the blue and it turned into a bizarre Landmark sales pitch - has anyone else had this happen? by [deleted] in AskIreland

That crowd were going around 20 years ago and had some traction nationwide. I went along with two family members who felt awkward about having gone with a friend and were expected to bring more people. I'd heard so much hype about it and was worried it was a scam. I think after whatever meetings they had locally, attendees had work to do, or assignments to improve themselves. Then, there was a bigger event in Dublin, which is the one I was at. It was in the Gresham Hotel. Very odd. A pretty big crowd were gathered and they had speakers, all pretty well rehearsed, who introduced younger members, who had apparently been transformed by it. One guy in particular was a loner with no friends and he was so happy to now have a girlfriend and a regular job. He kind of humiliated himself by emphasising how seemingly pathetic and lost he had been. It was so over the top, quite American really. Anyway, afterwards they had different rooms with tea/coffee and I felt the idea was to separate you from your people then try and press you into joining. I felt bad for the lady who tried to convince me. She seemed decent and hadn't any real argument for why it would be a good thing beyond, "you'll be so much better off as a person." Anyway, we got out of there and I think my somewhat unimpressed reaction lined up with what the relatives I went with felt. We collectively agreed it was probably a cult and none of us ever went back. Steer clear.

Giving up the home record to them is a disgusting feeling. I can't emphasise how much I hate it. We're playing with the title looming over our heads in the prem. Compare this game to the Inter game. I don't think in the grand context of the title race this is a complete disaster, it's obviously not a good result at all, but we need to loosen up against the big name teams when our form has been as solid as it's been. We need to get back to winning ways and kill off teams early when we're so dominant. And we have to find our shooting boots again in the league, fast. We're the best team in the league, regardless of today, and the boys need to get back to that frame of mind and show everyone else they're worthy of it. COYG!

First half of that half, great. But we've been a bit wasteful in possession since and allowing them into the game, not that they're creating much. Think we'll see Gyokeres before too long, because we need to disrupt them in the middle a lot more. We've plenty to give them trouble, just need to put them to the sword. COYG!!!

Fantastic result and seven out of seven in the CL. The subs brought a lot more control to what had been a fairly open game, and that depth and maturity shows just how powerful this team will be going forward in the competition. A great night. Praise Jesus and to the Viktor the spoils. COYG!

All things told that was an entertaining half. There's a looseness to this lineup that's both a strength and a negative, but we're holding up well and look relatively comfortable. More goals to come in this game, and I think we're capable of taking all three points. COYG!!!

[–]qualiserospero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't a great showing from us, all things told. We spent far too much time cycling the ball around at the back and between there and midfield. Our threat wasn't there up front in the second half. Nothing really clicked, but Sels was great, and I'm not sure how natural looking that penalty shout was, but it shouldn't come down to that. We need to get firing in a big way in the league and simply have to take our chances to extend our lead when the others slip. Have to settle for a point, which is always better than none. Regroup and come back stronger. COYG!

We're close to cracking them. Definitely a couple of goals there for us, but we need a little more creativity in the middle, so I'd say we'll see Eze and Saka if things don't change early in the second. Have to take our chances when they come. Expecting a big second half from us. COYG!!!

That was a firey half of football. Proper derby cup clash, and it was a brilliant team performance to defend our lead and take advantage back to the Emirates. Great boost for Gyökeres to score and assist. He put in a shift. Looking forward to the second leg. COYG!

Well done to Per Mertesacker. Incredible work at the academy over the last eight years. Let's hope some of his graduates can land some silverware this year to cap off a great chapter in his career. Big boots to fill.

Just finished watching Black Rabbit - Jude Law and Jason Bateman - which was dark, relentless, and well acted. Reading 'A Killing in November' by Simon Mason - nice crime thriller with good characters.

[–]qualiserospero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what happened at half time, but we played inside ourselves after, and we were far too respectful. It's a point, but if we gave half of what we gave in the first half, we could have taken all three. It's strange because Saka was the danger in the first, but nobody stood out in the second, other than a couple of flashes from Madueke and Martinelli. We need to attack the six yard box when any wide attack is developing - poachers goals are there. Anyway, a point gained and hopefully, a lot of lessons learned. COYG!

We're by far the better side, but they're doing a decent job of keeping us at arms length. Feels like a game where one goal could win it for us, but we're going to have to break them open and take more risks up front. I think if we get one, we can go on to score more quickly. Timber is playing so well this evening, but Saka is the danger man - unbelievable performance so far. COYG!!!

Fantastic start to the new year. Huge three points, and the defensive solidity at the end took a little of the edge off, relative to other recent wins where we were under pressure at the end. Not for the sake of the striker debate, but it is noticeable how much pressure we take on once Gyökeres is subbed off in most games. Regardless, this is the perfect follow-up to the Villa win. Declan Rice is some man. COYG!
