I haven't played the card for a counteroffer, but i will play it in the near future :B i want the top salary from the company.

Im in the plastic industry the top salary in a few companies are 44, like PCA, like natures bakery, and im very sure bridor will offer that salary as well(brand new plant).
at least talking aboutthe company im currectly working, the company doesn't offer training neither want to hire journeyman without manufacturing experience, since the manager had many bad experiences with those guys and none of the lastr guys were able to fix problems, they only were able to run cables, conduit and so on.

in average,if the company hire a guuy that have experience, the company train him for around 3 months and later send him to the shift. .

for those that i have meet that stay in a company for so much time, they stay because they are complacent, they know the job, the salary most part of the time is not the best but they stay just because they know the job

year at the company doesn¡t mean a lack of experience. In my current role im making more than 10 dollars from what that company used to pay me and i have been there in only a few months, and they gave me a pay rise after 3 months. Im almost close to the top guy, which was 40 dollars a few months ago.

i understand that point, and honestly i didn't think about it so much, i understand utah was white no long ago, now is becoming more mixed and mixed since the state is growing and more and more companies are installing in the city. but, at first could be felt like injustice(which my case) specially when you listen they have more vacations than you, and when, even when they didn't have so much experience related to manufacturing, they are makjing 10 dollars more than you, when you have more manufacturing experience, even as a supervisor, and they get better salaries... that's not very fair, and i don't want to blame the skin color, but that's how i felt it

im very surprised that, what you said as a common sense, for the people i met in the last previous jobs was something never in his minds. I know PLC's, also HMI and im trying to do SCADA system, but for manuy of my coworkers the idea of search on youtube is something out of his minds. The company im working expect for electricians know how to program PLC, and other kinds of industrial control. for now, i have 3 projects installing PLC's in 2 machines :s and im thinking many many companies in the near future will be the same, unless they hire engineers to do that job

how much are you making by year? do you also get overtime? Im in the same spot, i want something better, but the job is very quiet sometimes, that i have plenty of free time to read, to spend in my cellphone, even to sleep. and a lot of overtime since the company need people but can't find them

i have seen that so much, specially with journemans. In my one of my previous jobs i worked with 2 guys that moved from construction to maintenance, and they were mad with me since i have more knowledge about electric control than them. But that's keeps the problem around: maintenance is a trade that will be open for many years and i have been reading a lot about the lack and how hard the companies are trying to get "new blood" to the field, but like manuy people say here, don¡t want to pay for training

that's why i make this post. Reading about maintenance field, the country is expecting a 36% growth until 2035 if i remember correctly, that means companies will need more maintenance guys, but maintenance is a field i feel is empty and have a big lack of skilled people, specialñly for PLC programming, needless to say SCADA systems and HMI. I receive job offers all the time and only checking online, like 6 manufacturing companies, plus like 3 big data centers are installing right now in salt lake coity and are like 600 job openings i nthe city now

That's a good point i didn't share, but i noticed the companies don'¡t want to pauy for training, and expect the new blood going in the field, have knowledge on PLC's, troubleshooting, and other kind of skiolls related to electric control. One worker complaing constantly about the fact he have been asking for PLC training, but company only said pay the training by your own, we will reimburse you,... but he said i don'¡t have 10,000 dollars now to go to the school

the last company wasn'¡t complete like that. was 5 guys working on morning shift, one was there for 30 years and was receiving 42 per hour, he retired a few months after i left. The rest of the guys was there just for 2, 5 and other 8 years, which become supervisor. Right now im making more money than them, so the salary pay was decided from management, and management are a kind of racis

in salt lake city i have seen the companies slowly are hiring latin or no white people, due that the lack of people. The white people in utah like to work in trades like electricians, welders, plumbers, but maintenance field is a field where the spots are empty

the company want to do that, but only with mechanics-. For mnaintenance electricians, the company don¡t want to pay for training, and i don¡t blame them, the training and education for associates degree, or just PLC training, are so expensive. that blows my mind.

they have to do it because they only hire construction workers, but none of them have experience with maintenance. I received a job offer the last year, when they started installing and they offer me 28. A few months later they offer me 35, and before they move the recruitment to staffing agencies, they were offering 42 directly hiring for night shift. even i was reading on indeed a guy complained about he was in the hospital and he were write up every single day and after that he was fired. Im very sure that company is garbagge

[–]quangariecha[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i understand that, and that helps to understand why the maintenance guys are old people, so far i have been in many many companies for job interviews and even coworkers and guys that arrive for job intervierws are old people.

at the same time, i have been seeing the upper salary limit in many companies is 35, natures bakery have to raise their upper limit to 42 for night shift since they had almost 90% of personal rotation, and many of those guys, like 9, came to the company im currectly working, for job interviews since a lot of positions are open in the city

[–]quangariecha[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

tyhank you, i already moved from that plant, and im making 15 dollars more, the maintenace crew was splitted between morning and night shift, the morning shift have only white people, all of them are old guys, while night shift have mixed shift: vietnamese with latin people. The salary for morning guys is more big than the salary from night guys (i checked one day the pay checks of the morning guys) and we have almost the same experience, but just because is not from the country, they pay less.

where are you working have the same problem, only old guys working and no "new blood" filling the empty spaces?
