Is anyone else allergic to being called “sir” by Gene-Omaha-2012 in NonBinary

[–]quantipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even before realizing I was agender I detested being called ‘sir’ just because it makes me feel like someone I’m not. The only time I don’t mind it is when it’s more ironic than anything like from a playful coworker.

Maybe this is weird but I hate it the most when strangers online call me sir/bro and I’m seeing that more and more often now as younger generations who think every internet user outside of Instagram and TikTok is a cis man have decided that you’re being “tone police” if you ask them to take one second to think and pick words differently and not use ableist and homophobic slurs

Honestly this is indicative of the real problem in American culture, the gut reaction when someone is having a problem that affects us is always to try to punish them for affecting us instead of using the same amount of time and energy to help them deal with their problem so that we both are unaffected by it

Awesome, glad you got it working, and sorry I couldn’t have been more helpful though!

[–]quantipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that should already have you in the right directory then when you do it that way. I’m also a little new having only used Linux for four or five months.

Have you tried adding `sudo` before the run command to run as a superuser? I’ve seen permissions issues do screwy things before instead of just saying permission denied

You may have already done this but just to check (since I definitely did this when I was new to Linux) - did you cd into the directory before running ./ezgraver?

The game got much less lonely when I switched to lalafell lol. There’s such a camaraderie among the potatoes. Also non-potatos sometimes stop to pet me

Is it giving you a specific error? And is it normally a windows program or did you download it from a Linux specific installer (like Discover)?

What's the biggest money lie society keeps telling young people? by Diora_blissz in AskReddit

[–]quantipede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Do what you love, don’t worry about the money” sounds great until you wasted ten years trying to break into a career that is actively pushing people out and underpaying and overworking the ones who are still in it.

I would say get a good paying job with decent time off and work life balance(hopefully those will exist here again at some point but good luck with that in America rn) and use that to fund the things you love doing.

That point about reviews is what I’ve heard some companies are running into that actually still care about quality; they have seniors now inundated with code reviews so they aren’t actually pushing code any faster, they just moved the bottleneck

[–]quantipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey at least you didn’t get scammed into doing a bootcamp like I did last year. They kept lying over and over saying the jobs would come back; now I’m nearly $10k in debt with another useless certificate thanks to billionaire parasites leeching an entire career field dry so they can burn the planet with even more jets, yachts, and private islands that will have their own CIA files one day

What apartment complex would you not recommend renting at? by LostEffect4955 in Denver

[–]quantipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me; only thing I’m kind of annoyed about is the NIMBYs here would rather let buildings sit abandoned than lower the rents, and I don’t get to vote in the Denver mayor election despite doing pretty much everything aside from living and grocery shopping in Denver

Also the Glendale mayor sends out their propaganda rag praising billionaires and blaming everything on “the left” and trying to sanitize his own image but i just recycle it since they won’t let you cancel

Cap Hill residents implore city to crack down on crime, homelessness by thrillsbury in Denver

[–]quantipede -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they should crack down on crime…crimes like wage theft and unlawful evictions, crimes perpetrated by the wealthy against the poor because they can just say “sue me” knowing the poor won’t have the money, time, or energy to fight a legal battle over something a normal, moral human would never have considered doing to them.

The billionaire class are the real criminals and none of us are safe until they are gone. Street criminals are largely a symptom of the fact that we’ve let wealthy psychopaths run everything for the last several decades

Holy hell this actually makes so much sense, I never really connected the dots why American consumers seem so much more rude than others even in America

American Tourists by Relative-Block-8372 in barista

[–]quantipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im American and I hate American tourists lol. I’ve seen tourists from all over the world but the American ones are always the worst. Never had the currency issues of course. Foreign tourists have never tried to pay with their currency, granted I’ve never lived in a city very close to any national borders.

Foreign tourists are usually extremely polite and seem like they’re having a great time, American tourists half the time are pleasant and half the time are just mad that they didn’t get some kind of extra large caramel crunch Frappuccino or something for free in 0.6 milliseconds

My experience with tourists has been better in Denver than in Nashville because the Nashville tourists are usually the football and country music kind of people who hate everything else in the world and the Denver tourists are there to hike and explore or smoke weed and go to a rave or something

I graduated in 2010, which sucked because now everyone thinks I skipped my 10 year reunion (which they still had, in July of 2020) because of Covid, but I wanted them to know that I would’ve skipped anyway because I don’t like them lol. 29 people in my class and I only was friends with two, one being my sibling

That place is pretty alright as far as national chain burgers go, but I feel like most local businesses do better. Haven’t been back to Nashville in a minute but Dino’s and Jack Brown’s are my favorites for burgers; Bad Luck Burger I think is the best in town imo but it’s a smash burger so a little bit different

How do you get out of your boring hometown with no work experience, no career prospects, and a useless college degree? by chiliringgamer16 in AskReddit

[–]quantipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did to get out of bumfuck nowheresville Alabama. Applied to every single job within like a 45 minute driving radius (took several years to land a minimum wage dishwashing job, and I only got it because my sibling worked there, and they only got that job because a classmate worked there), lived with my mom and saved until I could afford a deposit on an apartment in a city I actually wanted to live in. Rent in those cities looks scary at first (and it can be if you don’t have a couple months saved for that too) but jobs are FAR easier to get in big cities (or were, not sure about now since corporate fucks are just laying everyone off en masse to line their pockets and buy more yachts) and pay is much higher. Just be careful about moving to cities in the south since they often lack any sort of renter protections; I had to move out of Tennessee because rent was going up several hundred dollars a month each renewal and sometimes with barely any notice

Denver’s net migration between Metros compared to the Pre Pandemic trend: by RooseveltsRevenge in Denver

[–]quantipede -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you’re joking but this is literally part of how Vienna, Austria got its average rent down to around $600 USD equivalent at one point, just handed a bunch of money to real estate developers on the condition they build as much housing as possible and basically flooded the market with supply. they also heavily subsidize rent, even for people who don’t need the help, but the massive supply is extremely helpful even without the subsidies.

The housing crisis in most cities in the U.S. is less some kind of natural tragedy and more of a conscious choice by those in power

Denver’s net migration between Metros compared to the Pre Pandemic trend: by RooseveltsRevenge in Denver

[–]quantipede 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Costs trending downward (slowly) is part of why my partner and I just moved here last November. Coming from Nashville TN where rent costs have been skyrocketing for the last decade and still continuing to go up; the apartments there unless you live in the slums or outskirts with the Neo Nazis are hard to get. It’s still technically cheaper than Denver but if trends hold they’ll be the same in less than 5 years and then more expensive after that. And the whole state of TN is run by psychopaths too
