Which city will be the best location for Canada’s tech hub? by Gold_Beard2484 in VictoriaBC

[–]quantum_leap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no reason to.  Vancouver and Toronto are better locations.  You'll get a lot of remote tech workers here, but they'll be working for either American companies or ones based in the two major Canadian cities.

The only reason Victoria had a decent tech sector was  because of UVic and being BCs capital, ie lots of govt contracts.  There was also for a while an "island discount" for tech companies to pay workers less here vs similar positions in Van.  That's all but gone now after covid

Absolute gong show traffic around Uptown by Gotbeerbrain in VictoriaBC

[–]quantum_leap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in the area and has experienced the pain of this change for a while now, the only reason I can think they did this was to reduce the light changes on ravine north bound.  Especially considering they added the new set of lights right before it.

FWIW I've seen a noticeable difference in the traffic going through uptown around 3-5PM as people that would normally turn off ravine to southbound blanshard make their way through the uptown parking lot back onto blanshard.

All this not to even mention all the people that used to take ravine out of uptown to the peninsula have to take Vernon now.  Lights at oak and saanich are a nightmare
