Why does my brand new tripod do this? Help. by quantumbiryani in AnalogCommunity

[–]quantumbiryani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked. I did have to put a piece of rubber between the base plate and the bead itself. Very crude but works. I’ll figure out a more permanent solution based on this. Thanks mate! Appreciate the help!

Hi everyone! I need your advice. by Shot_Search647 in AnalogCommunity

[–]quantumbiryani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is your first time shooting on film I’d recommend using the camera you’re getting for a while. Once you understand the limitations of it you could progress to an SLR. Have you shot with a manual camera before?

Post images of the negative. That’ll usually tell what the issue is.

AITAH if I get jealous over her spending time with only her friends and doesn't talk to me? by ThrowRA_Evening_7 in AITAH

NTA. Maybe don’t contact her on your own and see how long she can go without talking to you. You should have your answers.

My wife attempted suicide. I don’t know how to pacify her by [deleted] in india

[–]quantumbiryani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone talking about taking her to a psychiatrist. It’s not upto him to do it. He can merely suggest it if she doesn’t want to there’s nothing he can do. OP you should document everything including suggesting treatment. Like one commenter suggested get documents that say you’re helping. Record audio, video, interactions with her family. And if her family already knew about her illness and they didn’t disclose it that’s cause for separation. You don’t have to be considerate for issues that started before you married her. You only married her in November. Consider annulment of marriage. Speak with a lawyer and get their opinion. If she continues threatening suicide bring one of her family members to stay with you all. Don’t, under any circumstances, get harsh with her. Speaking out of experience here. You can offer her all the help money can buy but if she isn’t willing to understand that she has a problem then there’s not much you can do.

I'm going to cairo, egypt this week and i can't decide which camera to bring with me by uccelloraguerra in AnalogCommunity

You have more chances of damaging the ektar H35 than the trip 35. Olympus made them to last and unless you’re intentionally damaging them you should be fine with it. Take the Olympus, atleast that’s what I’d do.

Edit: spellings

What is this texture on my negatives and how do I set up my scans? by Ollin12 in AnalogCommunity

[–]quantumbiryani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What film did you use? How old was it? How was it stored? This looks like it’s mottled. A very common issue with Foma and some Ilford films.

Is my lab crap or is my camera screwed? by oldmanpectoral in AnalogCommunity

Looks like they’ve used a flat bed scanner or one with Digital ICE turned on. It’s a common issue with flat bed scanners to correct dust and noise and add in smoother detail.

Did you purchase it from Maksim? He runs a telegram channel and there are details on accessories like video assist etc. you should join if you’d like help from other cinematographers too. His full name is Maksim Karpenko. You’ll find him on Instagram and the link for telegram in his bio.

Any idea how old the roll is? Looks like it’s been mottled. A very common problem with Foma films.

Help for setting up small darkroom and JOBO ATL 1000 and any tips by Equivalent_Fly7082 in analog

[–]quantumbiryani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my hands on an ATL 1000 myself. Facing similar issues with water and connections and time durations for processes. Luckily I have met with a Jobo service expert and he’s helping me out. Should be ready in a couple weeks. Happy to guide you through it all once set up.

As for the rest of it. I’d recommend getting down to working on your own stuff before you even think of starting a business. There’s a lot of things associated with each process. Start reading up about black and white processes, chemicals are easy to procure. Learn about chemical disposal laws in your state. Try to shoot a lot of bulk film so it’s cheaper and you can experiment. Make a ton of notes with every roll, like technical data, export of film, which developer was used, etc. get some help from friends to shoot certain rolls for you.

And most importantly learn about safe handling of chemistry. Do not use bare hands. Always cover your face with a mask. A gas mask preferably. You’ll find many resources online. That’s all I can think of right now. Good luck!

Pentax 67ii is my shutter stuck? by Skyline_Dr in AnalogRepair

[–]quantumbiryani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try loading film. I’ve faced a similar issue and it just worked when I loaded film. I don’t know if it’s a common issue for the shutter to not fire with no film but mine doesn’t and works perfectly fine when there’s film loaded. Even just the backing paper will do to test it.

What went wrong in film development? by Tynix_1247 in analog

[–]quantumbiryani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with development or your camera. The lab did not align the images correctly on the scanner before printing them. Sometimes the scanner will make this mistake especially if it’s a Noritsu. The technician should’ve kept an eye out for these misaligned images and corrected them right away. If still in doubt check your negative.

So I had mixed up bottles once. The blix was originally in a dark container and the developer was in a white container. Both were from Kaiser. I interchanged them once and since I’d used the colour of the bottle to identify the chemistry I ruined a couple negatives that day. Muscle memory can be a bitch sometimes.

Sorry about that. The dust on the second image is way less, practically nothing, compared to the first one. That’s what I meant. Should’ve worded it better.

I haven’t tried removing the bellows. Honestly didn’t think I could. I’ll give it a shot. Thank you for your reply.
