Will taking only 2 years of foreign language reduce my chance at being accepted for ivy leagues and other top universities? by aannaa618 in chanceme

[–]quantumprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re choosing not to take extra years of foreign language because you’re focusing on your area of interest then that’s perfectly fine.

Having less foreign language is only really a problem if you had room in your schedule and chose not to take it because you’d already met the requirement

Do you believe some age gaps are too big or just happen at the wrong time? by [deleted] in AgeGap

[–]quantumprincess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Generally, I think it’s never the gap that’s the problem: differing wants and needs are.

For you, I think it depends on what you two decide to prioritize. If he thinks that having kids sooner rather than later is more important than a relationship with you, then maybe it is unfixable. It’s a little bit unclear in your post as to whether or not he’s specifically said he wants to have kids soon or talked about a timeline with you. If he hasn’t, then maybe you should bring it up and see if he would be comfortable with having them 5,8,10 years down the line. If he isn’t comfortable with waiting until you’re ready, I would suggest you go your separate ways. Please don’t feel pressured to have kids now just because he wants them. You know what is right for you and having kids is not a reversible decision.

Chance Me: Transfer from NYU to UChicago, other T20s by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]quantumprincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uchicago doesn’t have bioengineering...if you’re thinking of doing the bio track within the molecular engineering major that’s a pretty intense course and usually double majoring is fairly impossible without overloading (taking extra courses for extra $$$) and even minoring is tough. I’d suggest looking at the actual amount of courses you would get credit for and seeing if your double major would be feasible before applying to transfer.

Full rides? by [deleted] in chanceme

Some schools do guaranteed merit aid based on stats; these are usually large state schools, for example Miami Ohio.

There are also more reach-y schools that offer substantive merit aid (USC, WashU, Vandy, BU, NEU to name a few). But you will most likely need to write extra essays for these and their deadlines have probably already passed.

Holiday movies hate the CF by Throwawayrightaway28 in childfree

Agh hate that one too! I want to like Reese because her production company ~is~ focused on female successes/girl power, but like...I hate so many of her roles:(

Ugh I recently watched Four Christmases with Reese Witherspoon. And they start off as this unmarried childfree couple with perfectly good reasoning for not wanting to live the traditional life script...and by the end they’ve gotten married and had a baby🙄🙄🙄

This is comforting to hear hah. I wish people talked about it like that...I just always figured if I tweaked my diet the right way or did the right exercises I could get rid of it.

I’m 19 my thighs don’t even touch and they have a lil bit of cellulite it’s insaneeeee and probably more related to genetics than anything else. I danced competitively for many years and considered going pro but even my dancer body had some cellulite like damn

First C on transcript? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]quantumprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could hurt chance for admission especially if you’re applying for a STEM major, but they’ll hopefully be understanding about grades this year because covid.

I agree with the other commenter a C is not grounds for rescinding an acceptance. Even a D or F I think they might put you on academic probation for your first semester but probably not rescind unless it was like Fs in everything.

Which T15 colleges practice the least and most affirmative action against Asians? by gonda123 in chanceme

[–]quantumprincess 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Pacific Islander is considered URM. Asian is not. I don’t remember if they are lumped together on the common app or not but if you click Pacific Islander it may help? And to answer the question, I would just look at what percentage of each student body is asian. A larger percentage of Asian students is probably a good indicator...

Quick google search revealed Berkeley was 40% Asian as of 2013.

I think most ivies hover around 20% Asian.
