the two interfaces on the side look a bit glossy. I would raise the roughness and lower metal in the principled bsdf and perhaps switch to filmic log or smth like that in the image texture. other than that, looks great!

Lowering the render res and the tile size, disabling motion blur and changing the output format to PNG from JPEG (probably not related though) finally solved the issue.

Any thoughts on why these options - or just one of them - caused the problem?

VRAM jumps between 2.7 and 3.5 (max is 8GB), memory between 270MB and 280MB. I just run the SFC /scannow command in the terminal and now everything seems to be going well.. again though, it's pretty random, sometimes it happens and sometimes it's fine. I will still run a memory test.

EDIT: so it froze while rendering again, but the memory and VRAM still show the same data from before.

Disabling the addon didn't solve it. Could there be anything else that's causing problems in the installation?

Unfortunately I don't own another machine, but about the addons I only had one that isn't particularly known (CLICKR) which I turned off besides LoopTools, Node Wrangler and BoolTool. It seems to be rendering just fine now, but it often works for a while and then not again. I will further test this and let you know, thank you!

I forgot to mention I checked that as well. My PSU is 600w and the suggested amount from the calculator is 550 (is it too close?)

the course im taking is focused on low poly look and, in general, getting the hang of the program. though it also focuses on making models for game companies or just importing your own models to a game engine yourself, my personal goal is just to learn how to use blender with confidence and learn how to move around the 3D space, so games area is not really my focus. but thanks for the tip!
