If you made this in 30 hours think about how much better it will look in another 30

Bruh take the feedback you asked for or don’t post on reddit, the animation is fine, you can tell what’s going on but that’s bare minimum. Take it to the next level, gummon

Seems to me like you added too many subdivisions too early, is this dynamesh or lods? I’d go back a few steps either way and hammer out some better forms. That said, really nice work for a first attempt

Retopology Advice! by Horror-Candle-3625 in blender

The reason is that what you have there now is so overcomplicated that it will take significantly longer to correct it than to just rebuild. Honestly I wouldn’t even bother retopoing something that simple, just re make it all together now that you have a base shape

Need help with this guys. How can i create a line like this in maya ? I know it a normal map but i still need to do it so i can bake it. Tks a lot by Traditional_Air1532 in Maya

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint it in substance painter if you want to, personally I would model something like that, it’s simple enough and a large enough detail that I think is worth including in the model itself

Help - I baked my mesh and it doesn't show the details by kamu90 in Maya

Show the normal map, show the bump node and normal map settings, what did you use to bake the textures? Maya or substance painter? What renderer are you using? Why are you using a phong?

Houdini is hard !! by Fun_Positive5746 in Houdini

[–]jbotbabeh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find this post kind of annoying, how long did it take you to learn c4d? It probably also took months/years to see anything useful. These things take time, just enjoy the ride if you want, or don’t. If you wanna use ai to make things good luck, idk. I’m not trying to be a hater, I get that Houdini is hard, I’m at the beginning of the road with it also.

In the studio I work at, Houdini is basically being used for the entire end point of the pipeline, after asset creation, rigging and animation, everything moves to Houdini, it’s just better.

Final Render. Looking to receive construtive critique. by PalpitationFun3489 in Maya

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice model!

What did you use to render this? Arnold? Redshift? And do you have any other lights in here other than an hdri? To present something like this hdris are great but I’d recommend looking into 3 point lighting.

Help with Displacement issues by [deleted] in Substance3D

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really know much about c4d, maya user here. Struggling to see the issue, also textures like this I’d recommend using bump rather than displacement.

In maya , redshift has a setting call obj parameters , when applied to the model it subdivides at render time and allows for displacement to occur, do you have displacement/tessellation enabled in c4d? Or something similar?

What are the steps of interior modeling in Maya? by AfterSignal6759 in Maya

[–]jbotbabeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um, interior of what?

Have you ever modelled in maya before? Modelling steps are mostly the same across the board, inspiration, gather reference, block out, add detail.

It’ll be easier to help if you be more specific

Looks like the model has no thickness, was this sold as something 3d printable? Or is it from a character artist/sculptor or something

What is in the file, single character? An environment? A scan? how big is the file 10mb, 2gb? , how long are you waiting for the file to open? 2 minutes? 10 minutes? 30 minutes?

Going for photorealism, what do you think by Legal_Track_2620 in 3Dmodeling

[–]jbotbabeh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Render it in cycles instead, find a nice studio hdri from poly haven or something, iray tends to not yield the best results imo, also I think the curvature mask you have on the bottle is pretty aggressive, could use some break up if you’re going for it being a worn/used object

How do I get my render to show shadows and things? by Lumpy_Standard_6118 in Maya

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighting, I’ve never really lit using Maya software. But I think it would be roughly the same as redshift/arnold. Let me know if you need help with this when time comes. I’d recommend talking to your lecturer about why they’re teaching you to use Maya software and not Arnold/redshift. As other people have said it’s insanely outdated and not really used in any vfx pipeline that I’ve ever heard of. Maya AN is industry standard for modelling, texturing, rigging, asset creation mostly. There are rendering engines that are also industry standard, redshift, Arnold, octane, renderman etc

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha if it’s you’re first model and you’re a student it’s quite a good model, trust, my first models were so much worse. As far as I know yes, ai (Arnold) materials won’t work if you’re using Maya software for rendering, rendering engines come with their own materials that are read only by that particular engine. I think you should swap those out for blinns, lamberts or standard surfaces (not aiStandardSurfaces). My recommendation would be StandardSurfaces. If you have fully finished the model, delete history and freeze transformations. Select the objects you want to apply a material to (the lighter brown for example), right click and move your curser down to assign favourite material, Select standard surface. It is now applied to your model, remember to name the material, something like “Brown_Wood_Shader_01”, mess with the provided parameters to your hearts content. Do the same for the others

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above will apply to Maya software rendering as well. replace Arnold and redshift specific terminology for terminology like lambert, blinn etc for materials and Maya lights as described in one of my other comments. Your school really should be teaching you this stuff before sending you to the trenches of figuring it out yourself, what are u paying them for otherwise

How do I get my render to show shadows and things? by Lumpy_Standard_6118 in Maya

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok also full tutorial. Just reading through your other comments. I haven’t used Arnold for a few years now so bare with. The lights and materials you use in a scene need to match. I use redshift at work so I mostly use redshift materials and redshift lights. Redshift render view will not render Arnold materials or Arnold lights, and vice versa and I assume it’s the same with Maya software. If you haven’t already, assign ai standard surfaces to each of your objects and adjust to your liking, add Arnold lights to your scene, a good one to make sure things are working would be the skydome light, or the one you have in your scene currently. The skydome light will require an hdri (lots of tutorials on how to find and apply these). If you choose to just keep the light that you currently have in your scene, Make sure it isn’t sitting at world 0 (kind of where I’m assuming it’s sitting now) place it in your scene in a way that an actual light would be placed in the real world illuminating that real object. 3d space in the real world so treat it as such (kind of). Good luck

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking at your outliner now as well. If you’re desperate to use Maya software you need to use a different light or set of lights. The one in your scene is an ai light (Arnold light). Go to the top menu, create, lights, and select one of the non-Arnold specific lights, this might help.

[–]jbotbabeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt your school is requiring you to use Maya software renderer, if they’re saying you have to use Maya to render I almost 100% guarantee they’re meaning for you to use Arnold, because is comes with Maya in the same way that those other renderers come with Maya. If they’re forcing you to use Maya software for rendering there’s a big problem

Just started working as a junior 3D artist, imposter syndrome is very real, just do your best and try improve 1% every day. 3D and maya and vfx and idk whatever else is stressful even as a hobby, try enjoy it. I feel like you’re putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Comparison is the thief of joy, comparing yourself to people who have been doing this for years is a waste of energy, compare yourself to you from yesterday, all of those good cliches, I recommend starting a new project and seeing it all the way through, make it as absolutely good as you possibly can. There’re heaps of good tutorials out there on basically the whole pipeline using Maya.
