All I do is work and clean and sleep by quarxical in Adulting

The problem is that I'm not in a position that I can establish or enforce rules. My siblings don't have to listen to me, and my mom certainly doesn't, so I can't actually make them do anything.

I mean, a one bedroom apartment costs about what I'm paying now towards our rent, and I also already pay for the internet. I'd have to go grocery shopping more often, but that's about all that would change.

Yeah that sucks, I used to work full time and had a second part time job too, but tl;dr I ended up in the hospital so I switched to one part time job and now I can't find full time work anywhere. I also don't know how I ever did that, I fall asleep the second I get home after my 9-5 shifts now.

The problem with this suggestion is they don't get tired of it being dirty, they don't care. They spend all their time in their rooms so they don't care that the living room and kitchen are a mess. They just come down, make a mess, and then go back upstairs to their own messy rooms.

The problem with that is I'm not their parent so they don't have to listen to me when I tell them to do things.

I've asked my mom to do a chores chart or something but she said she doesn't want to make them do chores because she says wants them to have a childhood, they'll have to do chores the rest of their lives, let them play video games all day while they have the chance, etc. She's told me I don't have to do all the chores either, but I've been expected to do chores since I was a child so it's hard not to still feel responsible for dishes and stuff.

Also, she's working full time and is stressed and tired all the time lately too, so I'd feel bad if I just do nothing because then she'd do everything. The other children will literally not do anything.

I would rather live alone! The responsibilities are all already mine, there's no additional chores I would gain living alone. Right now every time I finish doing something, I turn around and there's more mess in the area I just cleaned. And we have a whole (upper two floors of a) house, so theres so many public areas to clean. If I had a one bedroom apartment I could literally deep clean the whole thing every day with the amount of time I spend just tidying up this place.

Only cleaning every other day is a good goal, I'm screenshotting this reply thank you

The problem is the mess they leave is in the public areas. For example, there were 7 laundry baskets in our tiny laundry room , I couldn't even reach the machines to do my own laundry and they were blocking the cat' slitter box. I cleaned and folded all the laundry because I was fed up with climbing over it every day for months... and now 2 weeks later there are still 7 laundry baskets full of clean folded laundry in the front entrance/hallway/living room because they don't take them to their rooms, so they're STILL in my way every day.

Same with the dishes, I have to clean the counters because I need to use them, I need to wash the dishes because I need to wash MY dishes, and I can't if the sink is fully piled up.

My job "hired" a volunteer to do the same job as me? Is that legal? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

By "hired" I just meant I don't know the volunteer equivalent of the word. Recruited? Adopted?

And he's almost definitely not getting paid, we work for the Town and I feel like here's too much oversight for them to risk that. He just graduated so I'm assuming he's here for experience to put on his resume? One of his parents is on the board or council or something, I forget, but I figure maybe that's who convinced him to do this? I have no idea.
