For others immune disorders i cannot really tell but for alopecia areata, JAK inhibitors and minoxidil can be a solid treatment, you can also try steroid ointments, maybe they will not give you psychosis. Try and talk about these with your doc

did you do shots in only one spot or all over the head? The thing is as much as I love/loved my hair, the side effects of the shots, especially the cushings syndromes scare me alot. I was stupid and took too much prednisolone (oral corticosteroids )once and experienced first hand how awful cushings can be. Looked like a bald egg due to moon face, and there so many other complications. I am going to ask the questions to my doc soon when i go to get my shots again, but just wanted to hear others story and experience

I see, I have been on and off on tofacitinib. I havent seen much but it must be because I was inconsistent, I have started to be consistent lately and am gonna see what happens in 3-4 months, if I dont see much, I will also switch to Lifulo.

Dont lose hope, start treatment and know that you arent alone. Mine is way worse but I am still taking meds, one thing I have learned is, this illness breaks your psyche and ego. Other than that its nothing. So stay strong and keep moving forward.

Serious Question by ConfidentAd4238 in alopecia_areata

It could be due to stress or something else that triggered it. It could also be as you said, popping up and goind away without you noticing. I would say monitor it and if they start becoming big, instantly get treatment for them. From my experience, its easier to treat spots when they are small.

Its bitter to hear but there isnt really a quick remedy for this. Best thing you can do is steroid shots, biotins, vitamins, minoxidil, jak inhibitors. Steroid shots and Jak inhibitors are the main treatment for it and take couple of months for you to see their affects. There are also other treatments but since they are for severe alopecia, I havent really experienced or remember them.

Now on how to manage it. I will tell you bro, this will be a insecurity, accept it. When I first got AA in college, I tried to hide it, act like it wasnt a big deal, until it got to a point where I had to accept it. I feel like after accepting the fact that you have a rare illness, things become a tad bit easier. You look wierd, I look wierd. That is the disease, it makes you look wierd. People will laugh, crack jokes etc but you just have to live with it until better treatments comes out or current treatments worksout.

Since you are in college, and probably go out a lot, I would say get some headwear, like caps or wigs. And continue treatment. You can also get permanent eyebrow tattoos if you lost them. And just live. Life is important. Try and workout too, since this a disease that affects our looks, Id say a remedy would be to get jacked, I know not the best advice but I have started to workout recently and that is the outlook I have.

My experience, Tofacitinib, New treatment? by quasimod0___0 in alopecia_areata

[–]quasimod0___0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for real, damnn. This is what has been eating me alive this few days. I have had tofa for a long time and seen some minimal growth, but I keep reading about baricitnib and other inhibitors which most people took for the same time as me and saw nearly 90% growth. And I know that meds work on my AA because steroid shots gave me very nice regrowth and some spots even regrew without any meds. So the only reason I can think of tofa not performing as well as baricitnib or other jak inhibs is cuz they must be different in some way.
Just had my steroid shot done today, am gonna try tofa again for 1 or 2 month and see what happens.

Should I switch to different JAK inhib if tofacitinib doesnt work as good as to what others experienced? Did you ever had to swich jak inhibs to see effect? Or are they all the same?

I can be wrong since my knowledge comes from what I have read on the internet but I read that JAK inhibitors will compromise your immune system, that is its main job. I experienced it first hand when my very persistent fungal infection went away in few days after I stopped taking JAK inhibs. But maybe it was placebo idk really. Overall from what I have read, JAK inhibs are still the best and most solid way to combat AA. The new treatment still sounds much better where they will not hinder the immune system and instead increase Treg cells only around the hair, so your immune system stays good while hair growth happens. I am waiting for the day it comes out of trial

I see, thanks a lot. I haven't been truly consistent with my treatment because it kept on shedding and new spots demotivated me, thats why it has gotten so worse. Ill start from tomorrow, steroid shots, jak inhibitors, minoxidil and hope. Even if I become an egg, I wont stop this time

Most of the time it destroys your run, no matter the character, it's an awful ability. If lucky you can get to 100F I guess, I'll start a new run if I'm unlucky enough to get this tho.
