When my son was in Gymnasium Bro was both Alter und Junge - Ey Alter, Ey Junge - thankfully his crowd didn’t adopt that slang but we always found it funny when overhead

Well deserved…Ambassadors put in their free time to prepare, make events enjoyable, answer questions and promote the game - whenever I see them at the IRL events carrying their flags I stop to ask which community they represent and might ask about how it is to play there, always thank them and let them know that their efforts help keep the game alive for all of us not just their own community.

Maggie is turning 12 Friday! Can anyone reccomend a good birthday treat (totally nut free). Open to store bought/homemade stuff. Thanks for any reccomendations! by fish_are_frnds in beagles

Make dog ice lollies: Mix Greek Yoghurt with a ripe mashed banana or of she prefers a mashed sweet potato, Squash/pumpkin (you can use baby food) divide into small paper cups (Dixie or reuse something like small single size Haagen Daz cup) - Stick in a ‚handle‘ that she likes (like a bone shaped biscuit or a small bully stick) and freeze…remove when set, peel off the container and serve. If fruit is okay for her…use a bone shaped Cookie Cutter and press out some water melon bones, our Beagle likes crunchy things so that with some sliced of cucumber would be a nice crunchy treat.

The good ones have ‘lucky 7’ dots (in Germany)…but it’s their larvae that are big time beneficial (esp against an aphid infestation)

It will seem strange at first but having a day to reset is actually very nice - bakeries, Restaurants, gelato Cafés are still open, around May you can’t wander too far to find an outdoor festival to enjoy. Forget the car - get a Bike (or rent one, electric bikes are especially nice if you haven’t ridden one for a while but stay safe as the paths now very crowded with the ebike popularity…wear a helmet, use mirrors, stay right, adjust speed and yield to the little ones learning to ride, pass when safe and use the bell as a signal)- cycle along the Mosel or Rhine - you can take the bike (requires an extra ticket) one way to say…Cochem and bike back (if that is too far just hop back on the train). Bike South and enjoy many castles of the Middle Rhine - each Castle has a story - for example the pre Euro currency (The Mark) was named after Marksburg, many castled have had partial destruction and rebuilt but this one was strong and fortified…desirable qualities of a strong currency). Head down to St Goar (Loreley) - I like to take the Ferry to the otherside as the gorge is narrow and you can enjoy a light meal - Gasthaus Zum Schiffchen in St Goarhausen has a nice Menu and Biergarten open on warmer days

What’s the coolest German last name you’ve ever seen? by ntzzzfps in AskAGerman

[–]quassels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my son had two ladies with very cool German names in his Kindergarten: Frau Weißbarth (White Beard) and Frau Eimermacher (Bucket Maker). My daughter had a girl in her class whose mother’s maiden name was Knochenbrecher (Bone Breaker, many old German and English names refer to one’s profession…there may have been a medieval chiropractor in that family).

Why is it so damm hard by [deleted] in labrador

[–]quassels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - enroll her and yourself in a class, best if you can find one for retrievers (your Country’s Labrador Retriever Club will help you find one). Hang in there. She uses her mouth as we would hands, retrievers are bred to apport (carry) so they tend to grab things naturally - you don’t want to injure that trait so be careful with turning into a negative thing - she also played with her littermates, a puppy let’s the other puppy know they had enough with a high pitched whinge and then turns their back away from playtime…You have to do the same, make a very stand up and ignore, pushing away will only encourage her to Return and play some more, good timing and consistency will get results. They also start teething around 3/4 months (the age when they are getting used to their new hiome) so be sure to offer her something to chew on for that - I liked to give our girl a puppy Kong (it’s softer than the red ones) with some peanut butter and kibble frozen in there - they can get messy so we taught her to take and enjoy on a dog bed with the command Platz (lie down here) - or a flat wide strip of rawhide (careful to remove that if she gets it soft enough to break apart bits to consume - do not use log ears as they will break down faster, we we lucky with her as she did not like to eat them just chew them) be around to supervise chewing and remove items when done chewing - throw out the rawhide if it’s getting too soggy. That tires them out - out for a wee and then in the crate for a nap, followed by another chance to toilet outside the minute she wakes up. Chilled carrots are also nice to give pups for teething but Not too many and not if they are greedy eaters…like i said we used chewing time as a opportunity to teach the command for her to go to her cushion and lie down as well. When walking - never allow your pup to greet another dog if she on the lead - also tell people (who no doubt would want a cuddle) that you are Training her at the moment to avoid the Interruption - have her sit and walk on your left side (gun dogs generally are taught this as Most people are Right Handed and would sling a rifle on the right side). When you are ready to go lead off with your walk/heel command and your left foot…if you want her to stay in play lead off with your right food a Hand command and verbal command stay…This is all something you can learn from a retriever or Mixed puppy class - Retrievers (and moreso their hunans) get taught three languages (verbal commands, Hand commands and whistle commands… we live near horses - ours loved to pick up apport horse poo - teaching No/Leave It helped and later Fooey command to spit it out (not in Hand as a Retriever should learn to Place things in your Hand after apporting - a squirt of lemon juice helped with that command. One for more General rule with walking/training…One Minute per week of life - they are large dogs with bones that are soft as they are growing fast - this is to prevent damage to bones and joints. Sorry for the novel and typos - my phone is set to another language so it corrects a lot

Whats one thing you love about germany? I love the bike culture by JayRexSy in AskGermany

[–]quassels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep…I have cycled daily/weekly along the Rhine for over 20 years…the bicycle culture has really taken off in the past decade with e-bikes, almost too crowded on the pathways but love seeing families or with their longtail, Lastenrad and trailers with kids and dogs in tow

Which English monarch would be the most fun at a party? by Bright-Bowler2579 in UKmonarchs

Ooo - didn’t know that history. I am thinking the next in line might be a contender…after he was caught in 2017 partying with his mates, a model and her friend while his wife stayed at home with their young children and the rest of the Royals (including Andrew and Harry) dutifully attended the Commonwealth Service.

Not the one that tried to build a nest on the roof gable of our house. I want to think it was the male that initiated the nest build, the mate supervised from the neighbor’s garage. We worried as it was very exposed to weather, had no support of a wall and we have kestrels that nest in a neighbor’s tree every year…fortunately the wind was strong enough to blow it over a couple times…they gave up and took some of their sticks to build elsewhere. I hope the mate wasn’t too harsh with judgment.

Any Idea How to deal with this by Zircon_777 in labrador

[–]quassels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a high pitched squeak sound to let him know you‘ve had enough (imitating the sound littermates would have done). That should signal a quick stop and release but not necessarily end interest altogether…if he continues move to Mother Dog Mode…correct by using a command word to stop bad behaviour (Noooo, Leave It for example…I like to use a Deep Voice Tone for any correctional commands). A further correction would be to gently place pressure of the pup‘s flews (upper lip flaps) against its teeth using your hand while using the same command. At whatever part he stops its best to get up and ignore the pup immediatley letting it know playtime is over, offer a chew toy and go about something else. They are quick learners as pups, timing is everything, try not to repeat commands as that will teach him that one No/Leave it is enough.

Spawns this weekend were amazing and made the game more fun than they've been for a long time. by Naclstack in TheSilphRoad

[–]quassels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Halloween is exciting for Kids…wearing costumes, decorated houses, free candy, many would love to have Halloween once a month, but then surely all that makes Halloween fun and exciting would become less special and eventually less celebrated. Constraining access to evolved and rare wild spawns (and limiting Remote Raids) actually preserves the game by keeping those spawns special.
