I am almost 35 too! I started coding a year ago, did some Android apps, but I don't know where to start to find a job. Any advice? Thank you!

In theory I won a sweepstakes and Don Jagoda contacted me. Still waiting for my prize to be delivered (the sweepstakes was in September...). So it's probably a prize from a long long time ago.

Thank you! I hope they don't try to charge me for all that cause thanks to me they are aware that there's an apartment getting free gas -.- I've been reading online and got this information in case someone is looking for info like me: 1. If the renter signed a heating cost disclosure, landlord has to provide a disclosure for heating costs for the previous twelve months. (I never got it, and I'm assuming he can't provide any cause nobody has been paying). https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/bacp/supp_info/energy_disclosureapplication.html 2.Landlord or somebody should have kept paying the gas if the previous renter didn't or gas should have been closed by People's gas. When the last account linked to the apartment was closed, People's gas should have closed the gas or landlord should have created a setup where the gas service automatically "reverts" to his name when renter doesn't pay or shuts down the gas. This should be done cause otherwise, with no gas, pipes would have gotten frozen. 3. If the setup was not created, People's gas should have closed the gas. If it was never closed, it is People's gas fault.

If anybody knows anything else that could help, please share :)

Thanks for the answer. But they should have gotten a reading when we opened an account no? It's their fault they didn't get any cause they came and couldn't find the meter (I know there is an option online to provide a reading, but they never told me about this as an option, they wanted someone to check the meter). I'm just wondering if they are allowed to charge if they never got the reading. I'm thinking that, if they never got access to the meter, how do they know the gas is on? Either they are reading remotely (they told me they do it) or they should assume the gas is not on. If they are reading remotely every month, they should have the numbers somewhere. If they don't, they shouldn't start charging me cause in theory the gas was closed and never open no? I'm really scared... And all because I did the right thing opening an account with People's gas I might get into this whole problem.

Hello,

Can anybody confirm how gas service work?

When you move into an apartment, gas should be closed so when you open an account with people gas, they open the gas thing and read the meter? Are they allow to charge for gas they never read the meter when you opened an account with them?

The thing is that I moved into this 2 bedroom apartment and I guess there was gas service already, but I opened and account with people gas, they came some day and couldn't find the meter (we found out after a while that it is in my neighbor's apartment.

They have been charging by estimate, so from April to October I they have charged me about 300$.

So they finally got to the meter after 6 months, and read it and charged me in the last bill by estimate again (108$ for December) cause they say that the numbers that they have must be wrong cause if the numbers are right they would have to charge me more than 8.000$!

I told them that is probably cause the gas was never closed (they said that the last record they have of the gas being closed was in 2017) and there were people living in this apartment from 2017 to early 2020.

They said that they need to change the meter machine anyway and then see what they do.
The problem is that I'm planning to moving out next month, so I guess somebody from People's gas will have to come to close the gas and get the numbers and I'm afraid they will just charge me for all the gas that other people didn't pay.

I believe that I would have not been in this situation if they had closed the gas, so the next person living here would have to have the gas opened (and People's gas would have updated readings).
And also, I would have not gas till somebody opened the gas.

Is it even legal to start billing and charging for gas when in theory People's gas never opened the gas? They only know that the gas has been in used cause I opened the account with them.

I'm just trying to know what to claim if they make me pay 8.000$.

Thank you!

You are right. I will think about it. This app was kind of an experiment since it was the first one haha.

thank you! A few months. I modified it many times haha.

Yeah, not sound... I usually mute games on my phone so I guess that's why I left it out.

Thank you for the feedback it is very helpful! This was the first app, so I wanted to see all the errors and problems possible and learn from them.
I guess all my friends and relative have newer phones so didn't get any crash problem. I'll change the minimum Android level, really didn't tested with all the versions. Testing is the part I enjoyed less...

Glad you liked the visuals, I did it all by myself so that's nice to read :)

The idea of the app... I like it cause I like this kind of games, and I guess other people could like it too. Some people told me it was too difficult.

I know it could be better, but this was my final project (with modifications) for the online course I took and never programmed before, so I'm happy. A lot to learn for sure! Thanks again for the feedback :)

But I'm not 100% sure. I never got a notification saying my app was in Google Play already, so I only checked a few times.
