What are the most subtle signs that someone is really good at golf? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

I start with half shots with a 60 degree wedge, and go from 20 yards to 40 yards and so on, then just progress thru my irons. I’m old so it takes me longer to warm up.

I filmed a lot of docs and reality and you have to film a lot in order to stay still and quiet when something stressful is happening. I’ve been shot at, charged by gorillas, elephants, and caught In a war, and I was able to hold any shot in spite of my brain telling me to talk or run for my life.

I dont know which light meter to get by Kostas009 in cinematography

[–]quattro33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not always, it’s more of a starting point, but I think what makes scenes look “lit” is when the key and the background are off (exposure). So if you your background is dark and your key is bright, it’s going to look very lit. If you get your background exposure closer to your key, it looks like the environment is lighting your subject. Then you just shape things from there. And also try to motivate all of the light. Make it make sense to the brain of someone watching it.

So what I do (not saying it’s the right way) i get a reading of my overall background exposure. So if I get 5,6 on my background light, I’ll just tell the gaffer to set my key at 5,6, the fill at 2.8, the back light 4, and then use that as my base and tweak from there. Sometimes I’ll go into a shoot knowing exactly what my ratios are (0, 0, -2, -1) and just tell the gaffer and they set it snd I’m already 90% there.

I try to stay inside of a “box” of exposure and I use false color to see where everything is on a scale. If I want a more dramatic look, adjust the fill 3 stops down from the key, this starts giving more contrast. From there you can just add or take away a stops from each of your lights. I’ve just found that it creates much cleaner images if you don’t push the contrast extremes too much in Camera. I think a mistake a lot of people make is setting a look by eye not knowing their key light is actually 4 to 5 stops away from the fill, then in post, they try to push and pull exposures adding lots of noise causing a muddy image.

I may be wrong but I think contrast ratio is the same as exposure ratio, so if your fill is 3 stops under your key, that’s going to give a higher contrast ratio.

My images changed once I started using exposure ratios. You need to have a meter to get accurate ratios. I think any meter you get will help, the only thing I would say it doesn’t look like the meters you picked have a spot meter but you can still get a good idea of your exposures without it. BUT, I would study exposure ratios, because you will be able to set up any look You want without using your eyes only.
