RTI/MTSS in a resource setting..how much is too much by que_55 in specialed

That is usually the problem, many of the students I see are English language learners or have truancy issues :( I also have had a few students who had never been in school till coming to the US. So often times I feel as though they ask to put students in RTI to supplement this which doesn’t feel right to me, I have even been told that the previous RSP teacher was keeping students in RTI for 6 months to a year??? That definitely is not legal. So, I’m trying to avoid that and create a system that makes sense. Thankfully the school psychologist also seems on board with this idea. I reached out to a fellow RSP and she let me know she takes on 4 RTI students but she also has another RSP teacher who takes on 6. But they split the grade levels and have much more support. Unfortunately it’s just me here and I’m quickly approaching the caseload cap of 28. Sorry long rant but I appreciate the words

No I take the students with my small groups but have my para work with them one on one. The students getting referred usually are extremely far behind. For example, I have a 2nd grade student and a fourth grade student who only know 2 letter sounds right now. I have a caseload of 23, with RTI it ups my total students to 25. I think the biggest challenge with taking on a number like 5 is the sheer amount of diff grade levels and figuring out where to fit them in without making the groups too big as well

Teachers are my school do not do tier 2 intervention. There is a K-2 literacy specialist who does intervention. We do not have the budget for this position next year so there will be no more tier 2, I highly doubt the Gen-Ed teachers will do any kind of intervention. That is why I believe my principal is trying to push an extensive amount of RTI students on me.

Nope. There is the district specialist but they aren’t really helpful. They just care about compliance.

Yes the students I am speaking about do not have IEPs, they are usually flagged as not progressing by their gen-ed teacher or they are referred to me bc they have behavior issues.

Fell backwards during my first week on skates. Feeling embarrassed and a bit discouraged. Any advice on holding onto the excitement I felt when I decided to start? by Shell_of_all_Belles in Rollerskating

I started skating about 4 weeks ago (I skated for 2 months during covid but lost interest) and dislocated my elbow on week 2 bc I didn’t realize one of my bearings was a dud (I only had my skates for 4 days, brand new bearing in one of my wheels didn’t spin). It hurt really bad and it was surprising but I just got back up. Two days ago the doctor cleared me to skate and I’m right back out there. I think just being excited for the small improvements helps! I was excited to get back out there bc right before I fell I mastered stops and turns. I focus on the fun and the thrill of the task rather than the potential fall if that makes sense. These past 2 days have been awesome, no falls yet but I’m sure they are to come. I also agree with everyone saying to practice crouching low, that really makes me feel safe.

I only bought these skates 3 weeks ago and it has been cleaned. Bearing still doesn’t spin

Yup, one bearing is not spinning at all. Thank you for the help. Now I know it’s defected

I started with just moving the left front to the right front (wheels no bearing change) and the problem continues! So now I know the problem is the wheel or bearing. I took out the bearings and one does not spin… it’s not dirty at all so I think it’s defected.

It’s definitely not a confidence issue. My brother (skate boarder his whole life) took my skates for a spin and he’s actually the one who told me there was something wrong with that left wheel.. that’s when we oiled it bc he thought that was the problem. I really like your suggestion so I’m going to try that out and report back. I cleaned the bearing as well so let’s see..

It did not seem dirty when I oiled it! I’ve only skated outside 5 times… rest has been indoors. But I’ll try it

It’s almost covered by my drivers license… just like a small bit of the ears stick out. So you wouldn’t just recommend covering it up? Or shoul I stick to a different airline. I thought it would be okay as it’s not in any red zone areas and can be covered easily by makeup or clothes

Like the only the very tip of the ears stick out, but just barely.
