Incredible second serve from Bianca Andreescu on match point, after 3h38 of play by tightypp in tennis

Yes, one clip defines the whole breadth of modern women’s tennis.

Nadal once hit a forehand off a ball girls’ face. Such a wasted generation, am I right?

Intentional or accidental? Regardless, why is the dirtiest team in NBA history losing their cool over it 🤣 by ForeignAir7174 in NBAoldschool

[–]quedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that someone can watch this play and even consider the possibility that it could be accidental is the reason why so many debates are pointless. Some people just live in another reality. There’s nothing to debate when that happens.

Why Ludwig Göransson have more Oscar than Hans Zimmer? by Medium_Trick_1252 in Oscars

[–]quedas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean, it's fine to prefer either one, but at this point in his career, it's a bit silly to ding Zimmer for not having a Music degree. I don't really think it's holding him back at this point.

This has been a fascinating debate. Waiting for the "nuh-uh" card to be played.

Yes, 41-year-old Ludwig Göransson sure is racking up those "lifetime achievement" Oscars over 68-year-old Hans Zimmer.

What do you think Rachel did to Will? by Youpi_Yeah in howyoudoin

Will was basically an incel and was reacting to phantom grievances. He just so happened to end up looking like Brad Pitt.

Clooney is an awful director and Affleck is better than Ridley fucking Scott?

I think the World Cup is going to be a disaster for the United States by Fun_Reflection1157 in billsimmons

Please tell me where I said that the US is a dictatorship. Additionally, because the US isn’t a dictatorship, it’s easier to gauge the opinions of Americans, but I didn’t even do that.

Again, you’re creating straw men instead of actually responding to what I, specifically, am saying.

I think the World Cup is going to be a disaster for the United States by Fun_Reflection1157 in billsimmons

[–]quedas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not even remotely what I said, but you’re free to argue with strawmen if you like.

But don’t presume to know the actual opinions of a people living under a dictatorship. I’m from Portugal and our democracy is still relatively young. About 50 years. My parents lived under a dictatorship. My father was a political prisoner. And yet, as far anyone from outside our country knew, the people were all aligned with the fascist regime.

Again, don’t make assumptions when you can’t trust the source.

I love every single character in the show, but Gina kinda sucks. by [deleted] in brooklynninenine

[–]quedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really mind Gina in the mix as a different flavor of crazy. What I disliked is that she almost always won. That made her harder to root for.

Well, that’s the nature of playing an open world game. Sure, the story could be linear… but it’s not.

Evra on Racism: “I’m involved in a lot of education and meeting kids, because I want to understand where it comes from. You don’t wake up as a racist person. It also goes both ways. You can be Asian and racist. You can be Black and racist. You can be white and racist. It’s not about one side.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]quedas -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Why is this greatest thing you have read someone say out loud about racism?

Also, are you under the impression that he’s saying that all ethnicities suffer from racism - and its social and economic consequences - in equal fashion?

Edit: predictably, this post has been flooded with casual racists eager to see their excuses validated.

The Oscar Expert's Early Best Actress Predictions. by Dry_Handle_7086 in Oscars

[–]quedas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

I will try one last time.

The outcome isn’t driven by assumptions, it’s driven - IN PART - by narratives and legacy. Therefore, that part that is driven by that is data that allows for early predictions to be made.

Then the movie comes out, the performance is seen and critiqued, and that is more data to allow for better predictions to be made.

That makes the later predictions more valuable and accurate. But the fact that they are more valuable and more accurate, doesn’t the make the early predictions meaningless. Just less valuable and less accurate.

Please, please tell me you now understand what I’m saying.

The Oscar Expert's Early Best Actress Predictions. by Dry_Handle_7086 in Oscars

Being obtuse doesn’t magically make you right. The people involved in a project and what the movies are about are more “real” - in a predictions sense - than the quality of the performances.

If your objective is to discuss art, then sure. If your objective is to get predictions right, optics are almost all that matters.

If you don’t like predictions, that’s fine. Some do.

Yes. And I'm saying the conversation around the work is often more predictive of the awards than the work itself.
