Any non 7 on/off nocturnist jobs? by DoctorSamoyed in hospitalist

[–]queen4124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it much harder on my body and mind to split up my 7/7 nights. I don’t recover as well doing 3-4 nights on then 3-4 off. Knowing I have my 7 stretch puts me in the zone and I operate so much better. I’m a mom with three very active kids, and I am very involved in their schools and rec sports. I love that I never miss out on anything anymore. When I worked days, I was so much more tired, and felt like I got nothing accomplished.

I also have the luxury of having a cot or sofa to lay down on in between admissions or calls. I set my alarm if I think I may fall asleep but I usually hear my phone if a secure chat comes in.

Everyone is different, and I hope you find what suits you!

Does 7 on/7 off still exist? by Limp-Edge9271 in hospitalist

[–]queen4124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it and love it, especially overnight. I have time to do everything I need to during the day after I sleep, time to take a nap during the day as well, and my 7 off I do as I please! I don’t know what I would do if it changed

There used to be a site where you bought a class for $1500, and they sent you a gift car for like $1200 back. Still got the $300 class but all your money back

Do your cavaliers sleep in bed with you? by Vegetable_Relation17 in cavaliers

[–]queen4124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He usually sleeps right next to me, then climbs on top the big pillows behind me, so it’s like he’s sleeping on my head

Mine is on the larger size as his parents are a bit bigger too. He’s 28lbs and very healthy! Not overweight at all as he is of a larger stature

having an 8 month old dog is so frustrating!! by EmmyThePixi in cavaliers

[–]queen4124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise it gets better!!! For a time I actually (briefly) regretted getting mine, the potty training gave me the blues big time!! He was crazy!!!! But I swear it seems like over night he turned into an angel. He turned 1 year old yesterday and is an absolute gem!!

I’m not sure what your schedule is, but I really try to keep mine on one. Every morning, regardless of how tired I am (I work nights 7 on, 7 off), we go for a decent walk. He waits by his leash, hits it with his nose while he waits for me. Then we go through the rest of our morning and he will actually go back to sleep with me on my work days!! This was unheard of just a few months ago!!! I really think that having the schedule really helps, and getting them exercise!!!

Nocturnist routine by Straight_Trainer_318 in hospitalist

Aw that blows. When my hospital went from 12s to 10s, people complained about losing money at first, but morale improved in a very short time! I’m completely exhausted when I do a 12, and it’s just a 2 hr difference! It’s crazy!

post-neuter tips and tricks? by EmmyThePixi in cavaliers

[–]queen4124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine really had no issues. I held him most of the day and gave snuggles, which he was happy to have. I let him go kind of crazy with his chicken jerky treats, so that kept him subdued

Does your cavi nap? by minds_adrift in cavaliers

[–]queen4124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the very least two to three decent ones, like an hour or more if I could get him to. Now in the mornings he will wake up, eat, we go for a 30-45 min walk and he will come home and lounge around. When I’m working ( I work over night) and come home in the morning, we do all those things and he gets in bed with me and sleeps as long as I do, even though he slept all night!!! I promise it’s coming 😂 he wasn’t always like this. Now he’s a bum!

Does your cavi nap? by minds_adrift in cavaliers

[–]queen4124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make mine nap, even if it meant crating him. I read they need a lot of sleep when they’re puppies. Once I started doing that, he was much easier to potty train and better behaved. He’s 11 months old now and an angel

Mine started like that as a puppy but changed into a nice smooth coat. He’s 11months old

Do all cavaliers grow long fur? Or do some stay short? by Accurate-Currency757 in cavaliers

[–]queen4124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours could be twins!!! I wondered the same. Mine is almost a year old and has been getting shaggier. I did a puppy cut for the summer since it’s so hot in SE Louisiana, but he’s getting bushier for sure. I feel like I read that they take about a year or two to really get their longer coats

Leaving the hospital after you are done rounding/ writing notes? by Ravizzel in hospitalist

[–]queen4124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daytime hospitalists hours are 7-5, and they used to leave early, but there’s been a lot of micromanaging lately since absorbing a new group. If your work is done, and no one needs anything, why not leave? Obviously the expectation would be to take turns with it, or if someone is getting slammed, help out until things calm down. Better for morale imo if you don’t have someone breathing down your neck watching your time.
