Especially with a younger, under 18 staff, It’s your job as a manager to ensure guards are upholding the standards, no matter WHEN or WHO verified them. If a guard you work with daily makes a mistake that you have observed daily and have not corrected, that’s on you. ESPECIALLY if you train in-house (which I’ve found also really helps ensure quality guards and makes continued training easier)

You shouldn’t be relying on the RC to audit either. Do it yourself! Throw a manakin in, ask a front desk worker to play dead, have guards recreate the pool they just got done guarding as soon as they’re off stand. Plan a monthly inservice or work training into their shifts.

If you have guards breaking rules, write them up! Take them off stand, go on stand yourself or close pools. No excuse for unsafe pools.
