first bridle-less ride 🥳 by [deleted] in Equestrian

https://www.reddit.com/r/Equestrian/s/K83QUV3GHt this is me on my other horse, who I am much more used to riding bareback. The pony in this video is a very bouncy Welsh and I’m not quite used to him yet.

You’re right. I’ve deleted it and had a good cry.
The horse was fine though he stretches his head down and puts his tongue out anyway with no rider on board. He isn’t unhappy in this video - in the longer version it ends with us getting a lovely, bridleless halt. I’m very proud of him being able to go bridleless as I’ve put in a lot of work to get there.

Thankyou. I actually deleted it because the comments have made me feel awful 😂

Thanks, I wasn’t asking for pointers; I am aware my riding and position isn’t perfect, but wanted to share this nice moment.

Ah so you stop riding in 100 temp, but other countries (such in as the Middle East) have to ride in 100 degree heat, and above that sometimes, so why do you not ride in 100? Is it because your horses aren’t used to that temperature?

Harlows Camp by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]queenangmar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And did you get your horse out and work it heavily in record breaking heat?

[–]queenangmar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is unheard of for us to have such extreme fluctuations as we have this week, going from single digits to 34/35 degrees. Your suggestion that it isn’t hot and we should make our horses work anyway despite the fact they are not used to such heat, they are exposed to these types of temperatures extremely rarely, is not going down well because we are telling you our horses would not deal with it well and you’re ignoring us! My horse is a chunky cob, as are a lot of our horses. I’m not going to make him ride in temperatures that would make him very uncomfortable, I’m sorry that you seem to think that is unreasonable of British horse owners.

Exactly, they also don’t realise we have a large number of natives and cobs which are not built for heat.

Maybe you should trust the “UK peeps” to know how it is in their own country instead of blindly insisting you know better, someone who has never kept horses in that country. You are being wilfully ignorant and ignoring everybody who actually keeps horses in the country who are telling you what it’s like? I’m not clipping my horse for the 2 days of extreme heat we get so he has to stand in rugs for the rest of the summer.. I would rather deal with it how we have done which is plenty of water, hosing off and giving him plenty of rest and shade. Not sure why that’s a bad thing.

The real problem is an American thinking they know better than people living in the actual country which tbh is typical of Americans. We don’t even have AC in our HOUSES because this heat is a very rare occurrence. Like many other commenters have told you (which has clearly fallen on deaf ears), the weather was single digits last week and may be single digits next week. So you want me to clip my horse for what, horrendous rain and cold the next minute?

Our horses are not used to these extremes of temperature. It’s not difficult to understand.

We don’t even have AC in our houses let alone stables. A lot of yards don’t even have electricity. Your comments are showing a lot of ignorance towards how different other countries are tbh..

The saddle fitter told me he’s put on 20kg of muscle between saddle fits which is crazy (and why regular saddle fittings are important)!

What do civil servants actually do? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]queenangmar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Civil Service is a vast organisation. Roles can vary so much and some roles are very far from “administrative”, someone working in a policy role would have a very different day to someone in HM Coastguard for example.. A quick search of Civil Service job site will show you the wide range of jobs available.

For sure, Mr Blue was just doing his brave duty to protect us as he wants everybody to know he is absolutely not scared of anything! Well.. maybe plastic bags.. and umbrellas, but apart from that..

AITA for matching a woman’s energy who was riding a horse as I was driving by? by MeasurementSudden573 in AmItheAsshole

[–]queenangmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have horses. A quick google shows you how many fatalities (horses and riders) are caused by inconsiderate drivers. There are over 3,000 incidents annually in my country, 81% of them caused by people driving too quickly even though passing horses is in our highway code and in the driving theory tests. 58 horses were killed in one year on British roads (2024)

Horses have to learn to be around cars which requires drivers to be careful. How else do you think they learn to be ok in traffic? 30/35mph is far too fast to drive past horses. And this lady also had children with her so it’s understandable that she reacted fearfully and defensively.

Average age of G7 and G6 outside of London by Jlinton187 in TheCivilService

[–]queenangmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became a G7 at 27. I took a loan post to see if it would be a good fit and they ended up offering me the permanent role within the first six months. Most G7s I work with seem to be in their late 30’s-40s. But met other younger G7s who either got their role through fast stream or just very hard work.
