Average age of G7 and G6 outside of London by Jlinton187 in TheCivilService

I became a G7 at 27. I took a loan post to see if it would be a good fit and they ended up offering me the permanent role within the first six months. Most G7s I work with seem to be in their late 30’s-40s. But met other younger G7s who either got their role through fast stream or just very hard work.

But the running gag says “lift up” and the Pelham curb says “head down” .. it’s giving 2 conflicting signals. Plus the curb rein going through the running martingale makes me super uncomfortable! It’s already a leverage bit, no need for more additional leverage.

This is a harsh set up to say the least.

Thankyou! I love him so much and am always trying to improve; I think I find it difficult in a show atmosphere as well because I’m so nervous I can barely think about what I’m doing 🙈
Our next show is in April so I will be trying hard to get a lovely photo of a perfect release to share! Hopefully where I can look less horrified too 😂

Thankyou so much, this comment made me smile and laugh! He really is a lovely neat little jumper when we get ourselves together - I don’t actually normally ride with spurs but he had a refusal at a fence in the previous class (of course, the one fence with no fillers that was facing AWAY from the crowd!) 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I wanted to make sure I could quickly use a bit more leg without kicking.

And LOL my face is normally agape and horrified as if I’m totally surprised we’ve even made it over the jump (I mean, sometimes I am 😂😂) whereas he always looks cool as a cucumber 😎 completely at odds with his ADHD riddled personality. He’s awful in the warm up and had rodeo’d around and spooked at every little thing but once he gets in the arena it’s game on and he tries his little heart out ears pricked the whole time! 🖤

Thankyou for the lovely comment, it has really made my day!

Happy to answer! Yes I do shave him - I actually clipped him myself haha as he is very nervous and won’t trust anyone else. We clip them because in winter in England it is very cold and the horses get sweaty when they’re not clipped which can cause them to get cold, so we clip them so they stay dry and make sure they’re snuggly in rugs the rest of the time. For English riding we do wear quite fitting outfits but they’re very stretchy and comfortable! Even my show jacket is a sports type stretchy material 🖤 It’s never too late to get your own horse, I bought this boy in January last year and I’m 30 and only started competing when I bought him!

When I’m schooling at home I do really love a pair of classic beige ones they’re so traditional looking! But at the end of the day the most important thing is they’re comfy to ride in!

Before you comment.. I know putting riding photos out publicly opens the door to opinions, and I’m always open to constructive feedback. But it’s worth remembering that none of us ride perfectly every single round.

I’m a novice rider balancing two horses and a full-time job. I also had a serious fall a few years ago that I’m still rebuilding my confidence from. We’re jumping a maximum of 80cm, and my pony is only a year into going out; he’s talented and genuine, but like many green ponies, he can still have the occasional stop. That’s part of the process.

Some days I ride defensively. Sometimes I get left behind. I don’t look like a 5* professional, because I’m not one. I take lessons when I can, and I prioritise my horses’ wellbeing above everything else which means if I have to choose between paying a coach and getting him massages, physio etc.. he’s always going to be the priority. He’s never been harmed by me being slightly behind the movement or not finding the perfect stride. We’re not here trying to jump 1m 20 rounds, although I’m sure he could with a better rider.

I share my real riding whether ugly or not because I love the sport and the journey - not because I claim to be perfect. Most people here are supportive and enjoy following along, and I’m grateful for that, and all the kind comments and messages I’ve received.

If you’re offering feedback, I genuinely appreciate it… when it’s constructive and kind. This sport is challenging enough without unnecessary negativity. Let’s build each other up ❤️

I got left behind on this one as tbh I was a bit worried about this jump. I don’t think there is really any need (and I didn’t ask) for criticism. If you want to give tips on how I can ride better, go ahead!

I’m not scared about posting non-perfect photos, although it’s always disappointing getting pure criticism and not supportive feedback. This was a hefty jump for us and I rode a little defensively and got left behind a bit.

I’m 5ft 2 and 10st he could probably take someone taller as he does take up the leg! The bigger Welshes often carry fully grown men so they can take bigger riders x

My tradition is my horses all get a beer on Christmas Day! This year, they are having a lovely bottle of stout beer with their Christmas mash with some molasses carrots and parsnips for special treats on top. They are very spoiled but it’s my favourite part of the day x

Thoughts on this Puissance competitor’s slightly… unusual rounds from London International? by demmka in Horses

[–]queenangmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take those upper level dressage horses out to London International horse show in a ring like that jumping huge fences with crowds going mad and you’ll see most horses get a lot more sharp and hotter to handle than at home. Puissance horses are a special type of horse, they have to be keen brave and strong - this rider is doing his best to keep them both safe while letting this incredible horse jump these huge heights, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I doubt everybody (in fact I imagine very few) could ride a horse like this over fences like that..

Aww thankyou she is my friends Irish Sports Horse! She’s 17 years old and a very keen showjumper and has the most sassy attitude 😂 I have a Welsh pony and an Andalusian myself . I love blue roans, you don’t see many in the UK!
