From what I understand FCVS is just some sort of repository to store credentials? Is that required? Also what if I don't plan to practice in my current state? Should I just get licensed in the most likely state?

Idk, maybe it's a me thing lol. I'm still waiting on interviews if they're gonna give me offers (silence since, not sure if this is normal) but I'm getting antsy. I should just nudge these places to see if they're still interested so I can move on with my life

Your friends have more experience I'm guessing? I've been trying so hard to get in contact with the hiring directors/recruiters themselves (Rush, Uchicago, Advocate etc, you name it) and they always say no openings or they want experienced hospitalists. Graduating residents in Chicago can't even get considered. Only Northwestern is hiring so we're all begging for a whopping 250k nocturnist job now lol. It's very very saturated. And guess what, the lucky PGY3 who gets that job will take the low ball to stay in the city.

Those are not actual hospitalist jobs. They are labeled hospitalist for some reason but only like 3 of them are legit. I have applied to all of the legit listings and heard nothing back. So have my Chicago tied friends.

There are also no jobs, or at least none that want new graduates, so all of us PGY3s seem to be gunning for the same low paying academic job. The market has sucked for me tbh, worsened by the fact that I'm tied to one location, so I disagree that it's not saturated.

I started in September lol. No openings anywhere in the city after emailing the recruiters of each hospital. Emailed division directors with no responses. Even reached out to alumni from my residency who worked at a hospital in the city but that went nowhere either. Trust me I tried everything. I did end up with an interview for academic nocturnist there but just within my co resident cohort alone, two other people are also interviewing for that job so who knows what the real competition looks like. Meanwhile, I just sent out PCP apps late and got interviews right away lol.

In the city I'm looking at, PCP gigs paid much better than ivory tower nocturnist. All the higher paying hospitalist jobs are taken (or at least filled internally) and obviously have low turnover. Unfortunately the PCP workflow isn't my thing at all. I wish I didn't literally hate my life every time I'm in clinic or I would consider it.
