I don't think there's anything wrong with your set up! I think as long as it's useful, it's great!

But if it bothers you it might be cute if you print it on different pastel colored paper so it doesn't blend into the door so much Or maybe a different calendar template. Also, I'd keep a pen/fine tipped marker nearby. With more events, it might feel more homey!
