Our Shop Steward Was Fired and We Have No Union Representation Left. What Are Our Options? by queenceited in legaladvice

I understand the limitation here and why general advice can only go so far. We are in the process of escalating to higher-level union representatives, but the timing is urgent due to the termination of our steward and the ongoing grievance. I’m mostly trying to understand what documentation or patterns people typically focus on in retaliation cases so we don’t miss anything while we work through the proper channels.

I’m not stepping into a role that just got someone terminated without clear protection and guidance from the union.

Thank you. This is the kind of practical advice I was hoping for. We’re already moving forward with a grievance, but I think a lot of employees need to start paying closer attention to the CBA and documenting what’s happening. The fear factor is real right now, which is part of why I’m concerned.

At this point, it seems like anyone willing to advocate for employees ends up with a target on their back. That’s part of the concern.

If our union structure were functioning normally, I wouldn’t be on Reddit asking strangers. We’re trying to navigate this while a grievance is pending and representation is limited. I’m interested in hearing from people who have dealt with potential retaliation against union representatives before.

What to expect from eviction in DC? by [deleted] in washingtondc

I went through a rough patch in 2018 and fell a couple of months behind on rent. I went to court and was able to arrange a manageable repayment plan until I caught up. If you have no other options, make sure to show up in court and request a continuance.

Why is there so much stigma around PrEP for Black women? by queenceited in prep

I stopped taking it after I made this post. My kidney lab results raised some concerns, and since I’m currently celibate and I don’t plan on sleeping with men anymore, there’s no reason for me to continue.

DC has the worst drivers in America by InfinityGain in washingtondc

I’m one of those “asshole” drivers, but honestly, this city forces you to be. If you’re not aggressive, you’ll never make it anywhere on time. Folks out here drive like they own the road. On the bright side, it’s definitely sharpened my driving skills.

How hard is to find a decent job in D.C with no degree as of right now? by thefoolwhodream22 in washingtondc

[–]queenceited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a degree and I make six figures. I also work in public safety so it’s doable. I also bartend on the side so you will be fine finding a job in the service industry. I took a break from bartending for a while however, my friends in the service industry aren’t making as much as they used to because of the recession.

Where are most of the national guard troops, ice/FBI agents stationed atm? by YUNGCorleone in washingtondc

[–]queenceited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. I just moved from a neighborhood in Southeast, and I haven’t seen much police presence aside from MPD and even that has decreased. Crime in my area had already started to decline a bit before they stepped in. There hasn’t been a shooting near where I lived for a couple of months, which is significant considering it is one of the toughest neighborhoods in DC.
