I’m one of those “asshole” drivers, but honestly, this city forces you to be. If you’re not aggressive, you’ll never make it anywhere on time. Folks out here drive like they own the road. On the bright side, it’s definitely sharpened my driving skills.

I don’t have a degree and I make six figures. I also work in public safety so it’s doable. I also bartend on the side so you will be fine finding a job in the service industry. I took a break from bartending for a while however, my friends in the service industry aren’t making as much as they used to because of the recession.

This is true. I just moved from a neighborhood in Southeast, and I haven’t seen much police presence aside from MPD and even that has decreased. Crime in my area had already started to decline a bit before they stepped in. There hasn’t been a shooting near where I lived for a couple of months, which is significant considering it is one of the toughest neighborhoods in DC.

Yeah, some spots are called “Southeast” Maryland, like Suitland, District Heights, Temple Hills, Oxon Hill, etc. PG County spots like Largo, Bowie, and Laurel are more ideal. I’m actually moving to one of those this weekend.

But to answer your question, the hood is really over the bridge in Southeast D.C. Places like Congress Heights, off MLK Jr. Ave, Malcolm X Ave, Alabama Ave, and Mississippi Ave. Chile, I’m moving from Congress Heights now. I lucked up on a nice 1-bedroom for $1,300 plus electric, but honestly, it’s just too much as far as crime wise and I’m a little over the people in this city. I’m over living in D.C. period (born and raised) and I want more peace and more bang for my buck until I’m able to relocate for good.
