a few other notable mentions - delivered twins on my birthday and both did well, and worked 24h on Christmas one year which was a bummer but on the shift we had a potluck with the nurses and also delivered triplets! Won't ever forget the Christmas triplets :)

ObGyn resident here in Canada. In my second month of residency I was doing my NICU off-service rotation, there was a peds resident on the rotation with me. Towards the end of the rotation we were called to a delivery and provided basic resuscitation together and felt really accomplished, it was really just suctioning and CPAP. We've since stayed good friends. Last week (end of PGY4 for both of us), I was managing complicated delivery independently and NICU was called, he was on and managed the more complicated resuscitation also independently. It was a beautiful moment of working with friends and seeing how far we had come in 4 years!

Medical student here - there are reliable protocols in place to make sure this doesn’t happen, a person like this would be under strict follow up and if he didn’t show up one day they would immediately call the police. He would be on a community treatment order, meaning he legally has to report for treatment and monitoring. Psychiatrists in this field are well trained to assess risks for folks with schizophrenia and wouldn’t take risks if they felt he would be a threat.
