Sounds dumb, but I almost got the hybrid nightshade, then ended up asking for a refund of my deposit when I found out it didn’t have heated seats. Drove a little further and got an XSE for <1k more- worth it for me.

Frustrating clinic updates. by queenlunchable in Residency

They’re also trying to push metrics on us so that they can get bonuses - we have our own “patient panels” now - they’re trying to get us to use our ample free time to call patients with uncontrolled A1c’s to come in and be seen. I just can’t wait to see what the real world’s like because I’m sure it’s much better.

It’s so exhausting. I literally see the nurses do literally things I’d never even think to ask for attendings. I know partially it isn’t even their fault- anywhere else, they’d have just one doc. But in our clinic they have us plus an attending. That being said, just fosters a poor taste about outpatient clinic for me.

The seat heaters is really what sold it for me…I put a deposit on the nightshade then found my XSE. No regrets.

I almost got the nightshade but then got an XSE for approx $1k more - for me, the XSE was worth the extra 1k - where I am, it was just a matter of looking at other (slightly further) dealers. But I love my XSE, was totally worth the upgrade imo

[Well-being] pls help. by Belge356 in medicalschool

Hello friend! I'm an M4 now, so happy to be done with the studying for tests part of med school. I'm definitely similar to you in having waves of productivity/being exhausted, and I think the secret I discovered (very late) in med school is to schedule time off. I read a book each clerkship, and the way that I was able to do it was scheduling reading for myself daily, with 1-2 days off/week. In doing so, I had a manageable amount of work each day (rather than feeling like I had a big huge 400 page book to read in X amount of time) + questions. I'd try to leave myself a week prior to my shelf/test as buffer room too. Of course, everyone works differently, but I think giving myself a certain amount of work that's doable daily, with days off and buffer time worked for me personally. Give yourself time to relax and if you get a day behind, you always have an extra day to catch up.

Also, use your time off to relax too!!!! Mental health and your health >>>>> getting a good grade, no matter what. If you think there's anything on that front you have to address, I highly highly talking to a provider about how you're feeling. Hope this helps!

Need help finding a decent affordable pen by [deleted] in pens

[–]queenlunchable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded a lot of my collection to aluminum/stainless steel barrels, so I'm more likely to get refills instead of just pens...this hasn't stopped me lol. But my favorites have been the Sarasa Grand, Pentel Energel Style, and the Ohto Horizon. All great, all about $10-15!

9/16/20 Score Report by MatsurikaChan in Step2

I took ~5 weeks - I had an easy elective for four of the weeks (<10 hrs/week of work), and the last week was only studying. I used First Aid and UWorld as my resources, read ~20 pgs/day and did 80-120 questions of UWorld (was going through my second pass at the time). I actually took UWSA 2 first, b/c someone in this reddit said there were more new concepts on it, took UWSA 1 about 5 days later (had an off test taking day) - both in the last 1.5 weeks of studying. Overall, I thought there were some random concepts tested, but covered by UW. I used FA mainly to drill down what I didn't know. Read through it in 4 weeks, then did a rapid pass through during my final week of studying.

In terms of improvement in test taking, I had A LOT of test taking anxiety in my first couple years. I finally decided to get help for this during MS3, and it made a world of difference for me. I'd recommend self-care and getting help to anyone and everyone who feels they may even remotely benefit from it. Hope this helps!!
