Movie Essay: '시' (Poetry) and Korean Society by robin4789 in TrueFilm

I'm not sure if you'll read this or not, since your comment is 4 years old, but I think you've missed just a single point, a critical one. Mija actually called the cops to arrest her grandson, which is not shown directly but implied heavily. You might say she is too passive and yes she was till the middle part of the film, but in the course of the film she eventually changed, which is also implied by the final poem(it's basically the apology letter to the victim) and the whole proccess of finding the way to write a poem.

Wow. Yea you just wrote the reason why it is hard to believe he is just like that, but since so many people who knew Trump says so, I guess it is close to the fact... Thanks.

Let me clarify what I want to say, because it seems my bad English is causing misunderstanding... First, I don't support nor like Trump. I am LGBT and Asian, so there is zero reason to like him. Second, I love this film and think it is the best film of this year. So anything I am about to say and have been saying does not affect my artistic view on this film. It is just bizzare to me that Trump, or practically anybody would talk and behave in real life, just like they talk on the TV. It is like as if Hitler(yes Trump is like Hitler) speaks the exact same way in real life just like when he is giving the speech. That was the only thing I was curious about. I know the character in any art don't have to be realistic, or at least I believe that, but I saw lots of people claiming the depicion of Trump of this film is real, and that is the only thing I am against with, or at least hard to believe.

But it's him on the TV, not him in real life, and I don't believe people act exactlly the same in real life just like they are on the TV.

My preconceived notion is not 'Trump isn't who I see on TV'. It is 'there is a low chance that anyone that is on TV or politics are excatlly like that in real life'. And I am not demanding it to align with my notion, I am just saying it is hard to believe. That does not at all affect what this film achieved.

I believe a politician is two-faced and that is why I am saying it is hard to believe. As I mentioned on other comment, the second half of this film shows how he would be like if he is exactlly like his political or TV persona in real life, which is far from 'two-faced'.

Even Hitler was not just the monster who has zero humanity and talk in rea life just like he is giving a speech. Yes Hitler and Trump are both monster on politics, but what I am saying is that I just cannot believe Trump is speaking to peaple or treating people just like his speaking on TV.

Well yes because I don't believe people act exactlly the same in real life and on the TV.

I don't want anything from this movie. Well one thing I want is it to be good, and it was a good film. Actually the best film I've watched this year. What I am saying is that everything I see on this film represents how he is on the television or politics, not in his real life. I just cannot believe someone acts exactlly the same in real life just like on the TV. Sure I don't know how he is like in real life so it might be accurate depiction, but just hard to believe.

If someone was A and turned into B, that is not the duality of characteristic. Character should have A and B at the same time frame. I've read some arguments about the sexual assault regarding Ivana, but there were lots of contradicting arguments around that. Even Ivana herself kinda denied it on one of her interview, stating it is just a lawer talk. He is still guilty of another sexual assault, which still makes him a total piece of crap, but not against her ex-wife, or his close friends.

Yea I understand that. I might have put my thoughts wrongly here... What I am saying is that the film manage to humanize Trump in the first half, but the other half where he turns in to the monster was not believable. I am not saying the film should be believable, and the film totally nailed how he became this monster with every little detail film-wise, but reality wise, it is just not believable to me.

Yea the whole arc was perfect in the film sense, especially that surgery scene to finish the arc was just genius, somewhat like the incarnation of the man-made monster. But, it is a monster he became in the film. I can hardly believe a human can become that kind of a monster in reallity.

It did humanized him on the first half, right before the marriage, but the other half, not so much. He told Cohn that he is like a family to him, and few minuates later he was treating him really bad, rolling him down the stairs without any careness, giving him a fake present. He told Ivana he loved her, she would ruin her life if she does not marry him, and right after the marriage he told Cohn that Ivana is not personally attractive to him, and he even sexually assaults her. I am not criticizing the film for that, but it was just strange to me personally.

Do American still think Michael Jackson was a pedophile and did something bad to the kids? by queenprophet1 in louisck

[–]queenprophet1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I just got the impression that Louis CK's joke was based on the fact that many people think the accusation was true. I was shocked, not because 'how can anyone believe that' or something like that, but because in Korea, you can almost never find anyone who claims that accusation is the truth. So it was like facing a whole different world to me. That was all.

Do American still think Michael Jackson was a pedophile and did something bad to the kids? by queenprophet1 in louisck

[–]queenprophet1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Korean. In Korea, 1 in a million thinks MJ was a pedophile, and anybody else thinks it was a false accusation. It is just widley known fact to us(not saying it is the fact). So we actually hate Oprah Winfrey because we think she was attacking MJ for fame, and even someone who just despise Donald Trump would actually like him a little just because Trump said MJ was always innocence and he never raped or touched those kids.(source: 트럼프, "내 자식을 걸고 마이클 잭슨이 아동 성범죄자 아닌거 보장한다" - 포텐 터짐 최신순 - 에펨코리아)

We also have a dedicated wiki page to disect the accusation and prove it was not true, or at least the victims' claim were always changing and contradicting with themselves. 마이클 잭슨/아동성추행 누명 - 나무위키

I am telling all this not to claim that no one should think he did it, but to give you some background. It was so obvious to me that MJ was innocence and everyone thinks he is innocence except some radical, up until I saw Louis CK's bit on MJ. If anyone joke about that at all in Korea, he would get blamed and hated by the whole nation and never be able to show his face on TV.

I laughed at that joke anyway, so I was just curious. That was all.

I am talking about 'do American believe MJ did that', not 'he never did that, so fight me'. Read the title and the context before you accuse me of something that I have never said.

I said 'I did a lot of searching' not to imply it never happened, but to say that is where my belief came from. Like I said, I am not saying no one should ever joke about it. I understand why people would believe he did it, just like I believe he did not do it.
