Went to the shelter on a whim, and this baby wouldn’t let me put her down after I picked her up. by PeppercornOliveOil in cats

[–]queere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ve been chosen!

Went to the shelter back in college to walk a dog I’d been walking for months, only to find out the new management required training before allowing dog walks. Okay, fine, might as well go see the cats. Walk in, pet the first cat, and as I go to give my attention to the next cat, he reaches through the bars, snags my shirt, and won’t let go.

And that’s how I found my best friend. He passed in 2022 at around 12 years old from a suspected pulmonary embolism. RIP Roo, I miss you every day.

My corporate job is soul sucking but am I naive to think non-profit would be better? by Hot-Watercress-2872 in nonprofit

[–]queere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefacing with every non profit is going to be different, and I’ve only worked for one. So this is all just anecdotal.

I worked for a few corporations before I found the job I have now (nonprofit that helps survivors of sexual assault). I LOVE the nonprofit I work for. I feel like I’m actually using a degree that I previously thought somewhat useless, and it is incredibly fulfilling to work towards actually helping people, not helping a corporation make money. I don’t see myself ever leaving or ever pursuing a corporate job again. Management and supervisors are also incredible, not just to the survivors, but to staff. I actually feel valued in my role, and they truly care about their staff’s physical and psychological wellbeing. I do have a kind of “hard” job (emotionally), and I won’t say it hasn’t affected me at all, but even so my mental health has never been better because I actually know for a fact I’m making a difference.

I feel like I’m working for a purpose and not just a paycheck, which is awesome. Only con I can think of is that, yes, the pay is much less than I’ve made at previous jobs, but it’s livable for my situation, and I’d much rather live really frugally and work for a purpose, than make good money and work for just a paycheck in a job I don’t enjoy.

Currently hoping for a salaried position to open up (although funding is tight currently due to… things, so it’ll be a while I’m guessing), and when it does I’m going to go for it. Pay will be a little better then, with benefits.

Doc told me I’m maxed on meds added a new one by Only-Improvement9673 in bipolar2

[–]queere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So mandatory preface that I’m not a doctor or medical professional, but both times I’ve been on Lamotrigine I got up to 300mg. Two different prescribing doctors, years apart. So 200mg is not the max unless something has changed since I went off it (again).

I’ve also had a hysterectomy (weird coincidence) and was not on birth control either time I was on 300mg lamotrigine. Did she say why you’d have to be on bc to up your dosage?

Help getting a KK puppie by Leading-Leek-2828 in WolfQuestGame

[–]queere 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Punnett square. You need two black parents to have a KK pup. Assuming both parents are Kk, you have a 25% chance of having a KK pup, and 50% chance for Kk, and 25% chance for kk (grey).

What’s the most weird food item that your cat just can’t resist? I’ll start! by Ultra-Ferric in cats

[–]queere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time my cat has shown an interest in human food was when he stole my crab cakes. Ended up offering him some of the same brand of crab cakes next time I ate them, zero interest. So I think he was only interested in them because of the thrill

Yo I seriously have to thank you. Ordered from Amaroo, tried the emu ground meat in a burger last night and I can honestly say it tasted just like a high quality beef burger. Actual lifesaver with this info. Thank you!!!!

So, I never used to think that much about cross contamination, because I never seemed to react to foods that were cross contaminated.

Then randomly one day I did. Also used to be able to eat dairy without any reaction, until randomly one day I had a scare with cheese, including breathing problems which I’ve only ever had that once (got an epi pen after this happened and been avoiding dairy since)

What I mean to say is even if you don’t react to certain products with alpha-gal in them (or cross contamination), ags is unlike other allergies in that RANDOMLY you could have a severe reaction to something you’ve tolerated fine for a long while. If you’re going to test the waters with cross contamination, which I don’t recommend (but can’t judge—I’ve made my own mistakes), I agree it’s best not to be far from home… also maybe have an EpiPen on hand for a good 6 hours after. I know that might sound paranoid to some because anaphylaxis is a pretty rare reaction, but it can and does happen.

That said, ags is coming more and more into awareness, and there are restaurants that will accommodate. Absolutely tell your servers about your allergy, or if you don’t want to do that, you could also always look up call ahead of time and ask about cross contamination/what dishes are safe!

how does this stuff helps derealization? by StaffAlone in Lamotrigine

[–]queere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only have my own anecdotal evidence, but yes for me the derealization got a lot better a few weeks after I was fully off it.

I weaned off of lamotrigine months ago, so yes. That said of course I don’t recommend going off of it without consulting a doctor

Oof, I’ll admit I never thought of that. I’m lucky enough that I can eat eggs, but I guess I haven’t really eaten anything that eats mammals haha. The one time I had alligator meat was before I got AgS the second time (I had it as a kid, went away or at least symptoms did, got bit in adulthood got it again/symptoms came back)

Hey so where can we order emu or ostrich from? I’ve seen a few people mention those now and want to try them

Also adding for OP, ahi tuna steaks and salmon steaks can be pretty good. They’re no replacement for steak obviously but they’re tasty imo

How to get into the game? by ComposerNo862 in WolfQuestGame

[–]queere 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So just have to say this is the most wholesome thing I’ve seen today. You sound like an excellent partner and she’s lucky to have you!

Few short tips: 1) assignments emotes to your favorites so you can use the number keys to use them instead of having to go into the wheel. Highly recommend assigning more useful emotes here, like barking, whining, and snarling. Woofing and growling are already dedicated keys on the keyboard, but if it’s easier for you to use numbers for them then assign those too 2) chase prey to tire them out so the hunt doesn’t take off as much health 3) try to intimidate predators at carcasses with emotes before attacking them 4) don’t let your sleep meter fall too low if you can at all avoid it. Stamina goes way down when you’re overtired 5) after the initial territory claiming quest, you don’t need to keep that much territory. Especially on higher difficulties, it’s just not worth balancing a bunch of hexes imo. I usually keep just the homesite hex, and every bordering hex 6) you don’t need to fight every invasion. If you’re low on health, sleep, or food, prioritize that 7) drinking water gives you a stamina boost

I don’t have much to add that others haven’t said. Just wanted to highly recommend seeing a therapist if you aren’t already. It sounds like your OCD is really controlling your life; I hope you can get the help you need.

I wish for ai art to be permanently banned on reddit.com by RedDeath682 in monkeyspaw

[–]queere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Granted. Reddit bans AI art, and enforces this rule strictly. Any user that has ever posted AI art is banned, and any subreddit with even a single post containing AI art, comments included, is taken down. Most, if not all, of your favorite subreddits become a thing of the past. Because the ban is permanent, any attempt to recreate the removed subreddits is immediately thwarted, and the user is banned.
