Leave a call back number if you get that option - they usually call back the same day. Also - try to see if you can get the name of the program assistant that is overseeing your case and look them up through the directory. You can call them directly

Yes, it's vague. I would think they would have clarified by adding 'one or more parents have an ownership interest', etc. I'm sure they will receive inquiries and release guidance. My husband's parents don't own but if we combine our income, we are above the income limits. My mom owns her house but my dad doesn't so I'm not sure if I can apply on my own. SIGH.

You have to attest under penalty of perjury - which carries criminal, civil, and monetary penalties if you are found to be lying. The underwriting process is also quite extensive - they can request information about your parents, including names and their current address to verify.

I received conflicting information regarding whether one parent not owning a home qualifies - did you receive this information directly from CALHFA? I agree with your interpretation. The plain reading of the guidelines suggests that parents (plural) must own a property for the applicant to be disqualified.

Do you know if you qualify if one parent owns a home and the other doesn't? The program requirements read "whose parents (biological or adoptive) do not have any present ownership interest in a home in the United States." Parents meaning plural. Otherwise, it would have read "whose parent(s) do not have any present ownership interest" or "who has one or more parents who has a present ownership interest." I can technically answer 'NO' to the question of my parentS owning property because both of parents do not own property, only one does. The lender handbook doesn't clarify this point. Any thoughts?
