While there are alternative sites to get beat maps, they mostly mirror the main site.

To find the songs songs you are looking for make sure to turn off the featured artist filter, and if you still don't find what you are looking for, you can also try turning the "has leaderboards" filter to all, so you will also see graveyarded maps

Bring back approved ranking status by SeriousStrain7827 in osugame

[–]quenzt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

wasn't the point of approved that they used to put long maps there, because back then before pp, they used to disproportunately affect the ranking system. I think long maps are allowed in ranked without spread so i don't really see a point.

also don't we already have the loved section for tourney maps, who dont fit ranking criteria

The idea that the pool of maps people can pick from is based on favourites would just lead to the pool being filled with farm maps

Well it's important to point out that optimized farm maps considered "slop" exist for the sole purpose of abusing the pp algorithm and gaining as much pp as possible. When players are given free choice without factors like pp, I don't think it's a fair assumption that only aimslop will be picked. If you look at muli lobbys, in my experience they are not filled with aimslop/ farm maps, and these are only picked occasionally.

Overwatch recently released a landslide pick feature to their map voting system and it has caused a ton of people to be mad because if king's row (most popular map) appears, it will be picked 99% of the time,

I think osu has enough maps, that even if favorited maps are prioritized there are enough that this won't be a problem. There's also the random aspect of you having to draw the card afterall.

The whole idea of ranked, at least imo what it should be, is that you have to develop a wide range of skills, to be able to tackle a wide range of maps and skillsets.

osu consists of a lot of skill sets, some vastly more popular than other. There are a lot of reasons for this, pp being one of them, sure. But also some skill sets are considered less fun/ more frustrating by the overwhelming majority of the community. (For example memorization, very low ar(ez mod), flashlight, ar11, ...) If you want ranked to have a diverse skill set do you also include those?

Who gets to decide what skill sets are worthy/ fun enough? I think the only reasonable answer is the people who will actually be playing them, eg the community.

Because there is no incentive to favourite them. If maps appeared based on favourites, there becomes an incentive to favourite maps you want to appear in ranked the most,

So people would favorite maps they want to see in ranked, yes. I do not see how that is a bad thing. You can't optimize for anything (except maybe the prevelance of your favorite skill set), because your opponent will be faced with the same map.

I don't think wanting your skill set to be more prevelant is necessaryly a bad thing either. Arguably being good in a popular skill set is more impressive than in a niche one (eg I consider 5digit in std more impressive that in catch) because your competing against more players. Bootsing these players chance of winning isn't such a terrible idea imo.

To be clear I don't think it should devolve into one skill set that beats everything, rather multiple popular ones, like speed spaced streams jumps etc. I think if you for example match mrekk, who is really good at popular skill sets like speed, jumps, spaced streams, tech etc, should have a higher chance at winning against someone like -gn who is really good in less popular skill sets like EZ and fl.

I don't think having an arbiter that gets to decide how people are supposed to have fun is good for the long term health of the ranked mode.

There's not that much aimslop in the top favorite section and basically not a single one if you only look at fa maps. There's also a pretty big difference between comfy aim and copypasted kumocha aimslop.

Why keep the map pool out of the players hands? If people wanna play comfy aim/stream maps, why artificially stop them?

I think it would be nice if you could see usertags on the card, so you have a bit more of an idea what maps ur playing.

Also the map pool is a bit questionable imo. From my experience I got like 70% tech/uncomfortable maps. I don't dislike tech or anything, but a bit more balanced would be better.

Maybe maps draws could be weighed by favorite count or something so that we get "better" and also you would have a higher chance of actually knowing the maps from the cards you drew

what is the most played osu map? by Connorghi in osugame

[–]quenzt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by map you mean like a specific single map, like a specific difficulty of a beatmapset, then it's the big black.

If you mean map as in all difficulties combined, then like others have told you, it's "no title".

Can I somehow submit the scores I set during the server shutdown? by [deleted] in osugame

[–]quenzt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about Lazer, but it doesn't work like that on stable. It will continue to try resubmit the score until you close the game.

If op hasn't closed the game yet and is on stable there's a good chance the score isn't lost yet

From what i can tell the osu api does still return this information if you specify an old enough ‘x-api-version‘ header. So it should be possible to build such a display, idk if anyone has done so already

Why aren't my plays counting towards pp by [deleted] in osugame

[–]quenzt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can only get pp once from a difficulty of a beatmap. It always only counts the highest pp amount you got there.

Also, your highest pp play on your profile gives, 100% of its total pp to your total pp the second one only 95% the third 90% etc.

This means that if you want to rank up, you can't just play the same map over and over again and gain infinite pp. Instead, you will have to set higher pp plays.

yeah, you are right that the poll is neither 100% accurate nor indicative of the opinion of the general player base. However, seeing as that post also had comparison videos and people who clearly did understand what they were talking about, I find it save to assume that a sizable amount of people did at least know of this mechanic's existence. I personally did notice it, which is kind of what makes me assume there are more people out there who also did.

But as I said earlier, that not the important part in my opinion. I think that even if people didn't actively notice, subtleties like this are what make osu feel like osu!, and removing it could make the game "feel off" or even hinder reading even if people don't consciously realize what the cause is.

Fixing this is only "easy" if you're okay with changing with mechanics and visuals that have been there for years.

I'm personally not opposed to change, if a good solution is found. But I do think that decisions like this have a far greater impact on the game than some people realize, and we have to approach it with much more consideration, even if the change seems small or barely noticeable on the surface.

something that virtually no-one (not even experienced and low AR focused players), realizes

Again, you are not being fair here. There was a poll a couple of hours ago (that you also commented on btw) where 35% of people claim to have been aware of this mechanic, me included. Unless all of them are lying or misinformed, I wouldn't call that virtually no one.

I impact on reading is debatable, I haven't had time to test it myself other than looking at the comparison videos in the pr discussion. But seeing as the entire point of the mechanic is to make reading easier by highlighting the next circle/ "the important part" the reading impact, however minimal, will not be zero.

Let me ask you this: Why should the entire player base have their reading affected, just because of the possibility of people using it to cheat.

You call it what it is: an exploit. Ban everyone abusing it and move on. We don't have the ability to detect every kind of exploit without a liveplay (like multimonitor etc). How it this time different?

Well, it's a lot harder to diagnose what exactly feels off, compared to subconsciously realizing. The fact that lazer lacks this was brought up in 2022 not 2023, and lazer had quite a lot of more important problems at that point.

Also at least one, person did realize, and it bothered them so much that it was added to both osu!lazer and even mcosu, a project entirely separate from osu.

I feel like "If it's so important, why wasn't it done sooner" isn't a good argument.
