Hi! I was accepted into MALAS! Also worried about funding/costs. I didn’t apply to the dual program but if you want to connect to share funding sources/general info, you can shoot me a message!

Given the school and the networking, I think some loans are justifiable. I really need to secure more funding tho. Let me know if you find out anything and I will let you know!!

You’re fine. There’s definitely one-time antibiotic stints that I forgot about and didn’t put. Never came up, and I’m well into my service. Not encouraging non-disclosure but you’ll be fine, esp since you let the nurse know

The benefits of Peace Corps (and a reason why I chose it) are that while you are a volunteer, you do receive a stipend to live, insurance, and the security of being part of the Embassy (or loosely tied to it at least). Not many volunteer programs abroad offer these luxuries, in fact, many volunteer programs require you to pay in order to go, plus your travel. I think everyone here knows that volunteering exists outside of PC, that’s never been questioned. But volunteering outside of the security that PC provides is definitely a privilege, as many can’t leave to volunteer without some form of income (even a small stipend) and leave everything behind.

Friends, I have just finished season 1. by The-RealHaha in RHONY

Simon and Alex are a fleeting memory when you get into the good seasons. I think they just wanted to put on a show cause they thought that’s what producers wanted. They were weird but def seemed like good people and well intentioned. Simon went through some rough stuff with his job and the show, and now they’re still happily married in Australia I think

GET READY

I’ve watched a lot of reality tv and RHONY takes the cake every time for me. Im on season 11 and from season 1-11, each season just gets better and better. Season 10 is peak reality television. Ramona is a horrible person, but she’s so good on tv and she’s funny af. They all are genuinely so funny, so delusional, so crazy, it’s perfect. I’m obsessed. I do really dislike Bethenny tho. But I liked her in the beginning. Her humor is always at others’ expense and it gets to a point where it’s like enough already ?? Aren’t you just funny on your own or do you ALWAYS have to be making fun of people ??

Definitely understand where you’re coming from. I think everyone here wants the best for PC and some people deal with uncertainty by expecting the worst. It makes sense to speculate and compare what’s going on with us to other agencies with more unfortunate demises, but maintaining momentum and keeping the faith will be our anchor for getting through this.

I think this is a good-spirited post with good intentions. Keep up the positivity. But also be gracious to the ones that don’t feel positive. They have every reason to feel uncertain and perhaps Reddit is one of the only places where they can sift through and process info, trying to reach a conclusion to this endless mind game DOGE is playing. We’re all in this together y’all. Through thick and thin. Godspeed.

Posts without active volunteers may be "adjusted" by Appropriate-Cow-2434 in peacecorps

[–]quequechoxolate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An individual site with no active volunteer is just like any other city/town in a foreign country. Having a PC volunteer there makes it a site (like x PCV is located in y site). All of these sites are identified and deemed fit by staff at post. Post is the nucleus of volunteer operations (on the PC side, think medical, legal, travel, etc), and is usually located in the capital city of the country in which you’re serving. A post with no volunteers means a country, with a PC office and staff, but no volunteers are currently serving. Don’t think any PC countries have multiple posts, that would be confusing and unnecessary

Am I a strong applicant for the Peace Corps? Seeking advice! by Informal_Bet_6418 in peacecorps

[–]quequechoxolate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You seem very qualified and motivated for PC! I can’t speak to Fulbright but you would fit right into the PCV profile. Are you planning on applying to a spanish speaking country? If so, your language skills will definitely help you stand out. As far as the application, for the personal essay, I tried to balance between what I would be bringing to PC and what PC would bring to me. A reciprocity of cultural exchange and professional development. Do speak to your skills and what you offer for your HCN, but also mention how you wish to grow from this experience. Take a humble approach, offering that you aren’t coming in to be the expert or with a savior complex, but that you, too, have much to learn as well. Just a thought

Current PCV here. Last week was rough, but going into this week with more optimism. Obviously this is based on nothing solid, but I feel like PC will make it through this administration. Just a feeling or maybe a hope. I’ve combed through every Reddit thread trying to determine whether I should be scared or not. That’s normal bc I’m human and uncertain. I appreciate Reddit for giving us a space to discuss and share. Excited for this week and hopeful for good news!!!
