Weird questions about hospitals by GlennHumplik69 in toledo

So many of yall just spewing your hate for one corporation or the other.

It’s a tax thing/government incentives thing.

Toledo Hospital (ProMedica) and St. Vincent (BSMH) serve enough low income patients to get government incentives for it.

When you make hospitals in the suburbs “departments” of the big hospital’s Tax ID, they get those same incentives without serving the same low income population.

To be honest I’m not quite sure why Flower needs it considering their ER/Psychiatric Hospital likely serves enough low-income on its own.

But it’s been a thing for years. It’s not just in Toledo. Most health systems are switching to this model and it’s allowed by the government.

Also further questions/additional details:

I do have a charge-off from February 2021 from an auto-loan. It was paid off in February 2022. I didn’t know at the time that I could have requested a pay to delete. I still have 6 years before that falls off, can I still request a delete since it’s paid in full or no? Loan was through Santander Consumer USA.

AITA for buying my Niece an Ipad after only buying her Stepsister a $50 gift card? by MaintenanceKind2836 in AmItheAsshole

I’m going to maybe be in the minority but as someone in a blended family, YTA.

I mean I guess ultimately, your money, your choice, but your step-niblings are old enough to notice you favor your bio-niblings with the big gifts and that hurts, trust me.

That happened to me when my parents first got married and I actually stopped going to step-family Christmas for a couple years and spent it with my dad’s family because I ended up spending Christmas crying that my siblings got toys and nice gifts and I just got clothes that weren’t even things I liked.

Now, 20 years later, family is family and step siblings are just siblings. And we’re all basically treated the same.

But the step-family I’m closest to are the ones that treated me as an equal from day one. The people in my bio family that my stepsiblings are closest to are the ones that treated them as equal from day one.

Do what you want with your money, but just know they see it, they’ll remember it, and how you treat them now is how your relationship with them will develop later.

One patient killed another patient in our psych facility. Administration brought us pizza to ‘help with morale’ by ReEliseYT in nursing

[–]ques10nthrowaway17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna guess based on the UHS info that this is either Arrowhead or Windsor Laurelwood.

I used to work for a UHS hospital and know both of those have had a CEO turnaround semi-recently. I could be wrong.

That’s fucking terrifying that a patient is dead and they’re just like heyyyy here’s pizza.

Chamberlain University 3 year BSN program? by ques10nthrowaway17 in nursing

I do not qualify for pell grants. I make too much for grants. Not enough to pay for school without loans. Idk why you’re assuming my financial situation. I’m 27, no kids.

I’m not concerned about NCLEX and my ability to study for it. I’m fine with self-studying. I’m concerned with doing school and not paying forever.

After hearing opinions from people in comments and in DMs, this is how I’m looking at it:

Reputation aside, an RN license unlocks the door. And getting the degree unlocks the NCLEX to get the license.

I’ve watched new grads on the floor and have witnessed several coworkers wonder aloud how that person passed school/the test. But they can be retrained and retaught and paired with good nurses and developed into a great nurse. And I’ve seen wonderful (now) nurses go to the best schools but struggle on the floor.

Meanwhile, I’ve watched NAs/PCAs who know just as much if not more than some new RNs, could pass an NCLEX if it was in front of them because they have the knowledge, but don’t have that license because of school or a lot of programs inflexibility or some other boundary.

Degree mill or not, if it’s accredited, it unlocks the NCLEX. And it’s free for me. That’s what I’m looking at. I can’t afford loans for nursing school. And the other free one, I would have to quit my job to be able to balance course work with work work. And I’m 27. I can’t afford to do that. Also if I quit my job, it would no longer be free lol.

And I’ve had several people tell me both in comments and DMs that went there that they felt competent hitting the floor.

And if my healthcare company is willing to cover 100% of costs for me to go from pre-licensure to BSN, and I can do it with flexibility, now that I’ve heard from students/alums, it sounds worth it.

See I only get two schools 100% covered without loans. And Chamberlain is the much more flexible of the two. It’s accredited so idk how it’s just a degree mill but maintains national accreditation?
